A rare outing for this album. It's a UK first pressing, I would have bought it on import from Tower Records most likely, the same year as the Cocteau Twins LP. It's in pristine condition because I would have taped it to play on my Walkman...

Hysterical right now... I've met both Reid brothers backstage, and recounted my 15 year old experiences of not being able to get in, but seeing them later. They asked about my music and what my project is called. I will die happy. 💛 JAMC is the most important formative band. 🙏

This is the Kristin Hersh/Throwing Muses gig I remember best: an instore at Tower Records SF. But the single that still astounds me is Counting Backwards. A hook to die for. I'm so delighted she's still touring regularly, she's a titan.

We had Pulp in for a signing at my shop about a week after "the Jacko Incident". I still remember how lovely they all were. Jarvis posed with the life-sized cutout next to my desk in the buyer's office.

Adorable (acoustic) at the Coventry Music Museum. I've not heard these songs live for 30 years, since their legendary SF shows. 🙏 They were adamant they would not attempt another reunion due to logistics (understandable) but a few of us definitely tried to talk them into it. :)

A very rare photo from when I was 17, from negatives I've had tucked away all these years. The outfit was from a vintage shop on Haight Street: a moss green wool cardigan and olive green print on cream skirt. We used to buy pieces and make our own alterations on a sewing machine.

Not goth, or punk, or like anything I'd ever heard... washes of sound, passionate vocals, tribal drums (inspiration on me to drum). Shoegaze was years later but I think they were instrumental. Trailblazers, it's why we revere them as a band. Chameleons at the Brudenell, Leeds.

Slowdive at the 9:30 Club in Washington DC, Nov 1991. It had so many columns, hard to see, sweaty, sold out. 🙏 you can see the Tv's as decoration. Very blurry photos, the constant washed out red light and smoke machine made focus very hard! But they help me remember this gig.

Christmas time is the anniversary of these scars. For anyone Christmas struggling today, I promise you, things will be better. Last year I was knifed by a flat intruder, and I still wake up at 4am every night. Strange sounds can send me into a fearful paroxysm of PTSD.

5 years since I last saw my dad. I'd gone home for a visit, we had lovely chats, he was still mobile. We stood on the airport kerb and kissed goodbye. 💔A month later, he passed away. 🙏I wrapped myself in gigs this year. I've accepted, with some heartbreak, there isn't closure.

I walk past 260 California Ave every visit, but today I paused. It should have a shoegaze blue plaque. Former home of The Edge, where I saw Lush/Ride (91), Ride/Slowdive (92), Kitchens Of Distinction (92), our own label night (91) and more. Now a pedestrianised foodie haven.
