IN FACT they didn’t even TELL Joel (and by extension Ellie who they immediately sent to surgery) until he WOKE UP so not only is there not a case for Joel’s decision being selfish, Ellie NEVER EVEN GOT THE CHOICE😭

another thing that’s crazy about TLOU show is when they got to the point of her doing the surgery, FEDRA literally knocked them out and kidnapped them for that to happen. So it would honestly be even more pointless for. Season 2 to go over if Ellie would’ve chosen the surgery
