Interestingly, we also find that the expansion of this social pensions program increased the likelihood that the elderly, especially women, work as self-employed. This suggests that the elderly used part of the cash transfer to undertake/expand small family businesses.
What impact do social pensions have on old-age poverty? @drescamillag, @clementeavila, and @oscargalvez89 utilize an eligibility expansion in Mexico and find such pensions reduce extreme poverty but do little to labor-force participation! @WileyEconomics
