In my experience, lots of them that start out reticent about that kind of stuff can be really easily influenced if they actually like you. By their nature, women are more concerned with social aspects, so if they feel something is going to threaten their social capital, they tend to shy away from it. Another difficult thing but high value thing that can take a long time is providing them with an alternative social group within which to thrive.

@OhioRockHead92 Without a fuckin doubt. It’s tough out there, and little is certain. My marriage has been hard work for ten years, but the fact that our ideology and beliefs were already very close from the beginning has made things much easier in the long run.

Hope isn’t passive. The word means “confidence in the future.” How do we develop this hopeful mentality, to be confident in our own? They say man mostly fears the unknown, and from thence derives many of his anxieties and uncertainties… Continually working to develop further knowledge of ourselves, with harsh honesty and sharp awareness provides deep insight into cause and effect. This knowledge can be applied to the world at large, and we study it also: its truths, bedrocks and primal concepts, however “unfair” or “inconvenient.” In this way, the further we apply ourselves to the mysteries of this existence, the less the future will be an unknown to us. We can walk into it with confidence. There will always be surprises, of course - obstacles that arise from “unforeseens,” but they will occur with less and less frequency. The more we know ourselves, honestly, the more we grasp these truths of the world around us, the less we can be surprised by anything. We will write our own tomorrows instead of being at the mercy of “what might happen.”
