🌾 New global maps from the Global Pasture Watch research consortium offer an unprecedented annual look at grassland extent, distinguishing between cultivated and natural/semi-natural grasslands. 🗺 These maps, developed by the research consortium convened by @landcarbonlab in collaboration with @opengeohub, span data back to 2000 at 30-meter resolution, providing the insights needed to track changes, inform restoration, and improve sustainable management worldwide. This free and publicly available data is critical for understanding changes over time and guiding efforts to protect and sustainably manage grasslands—vital ecosystems that support biodiversity, livelihoods, and carbon storage. 📊 Dive into the technical blog and explore the data: #GlobalPastureWatch #GrasslandMapping #OpenSource #OpenData #OpenScience

It is estimated that humans have cut down about 1/3rd of the global forests since pre-industrial times. Another 1/3rd is degraded. Basically: we tragically ignore how much nature we have consumed and degraded, as it is infinite or simple to recover. It will take hard work and actions from all parts of society and it will need to be global, before we can turn these trends around. This is an estimate of the tree cover loss for the period 1985 to 2022: It is based on #GLC_FCS30 data set produced by the colleagues from the Aerospace Information Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing. Similar data sets describing long-term forest losses are the European Commission JRC's Tropical Moist Forests product (#TMFv2023; , @globalforests and the @mapbiomas data sets (. Visit to explore land cover trends and better understand land degradation drivers.

🌍 IT’S SOIL WEEK! 🌱 💡 At OpenGeoHub Foundation, soil, and soil health is one of our priorities! •📊 We are developing Europe’s first Soil Data Cube which supports long-term soil health assessment by making it easier to identify degradation patterns, assess current soil conditions, and predict future soil health in relation to climate change. It will be published soon, so stay tuned! •🪴 🌿 Under the scope of the @AI4SoilHealth project, we create a free app using AI and advanced soil health techniques to help European farmers improve practices. Over three years, we collect farm data, build a model, share insights, and highlight the soil practitioner community. •📌 💻 Most importantly, we are hosting a conference on soil health which will focus on science, technology, and business intelligence for measuring monitoring, and increasing soil health! Join us next year in Wageningen for the SoilHealthNow! 2025 Conference 🌿 — 🔗 register now on our website: 👉 Stay tuned for updates on our soil projects and events.
