Scirtothrips aurantii is not only an aestethic pest. Not only scars but deformation of the fruit & also a reduction of the fruit size as damages of Scirtothrips aurantii on blood oranges variety Sanguinelli.

Forecast for egyptian orange production is about -12%. Decrease in production attributed to heat at beginning of fruit set which negatively impact production, that was also impacted by 200% of production costs. "Hope belongs to life, it is life itself defending itself." Cortázar.

Has the temperature of a fruit arrived at 0°C? Look for crystals of hesperidine that remain after the cold condition. And damages? Fruits must have free juice out from the juice vesicles. This is not the case.

Low flow anti-freeze systems are really effective for light frosts. The only requirement is to keep the water flow constant until the sun has melted all the ice. The energy emitted when this ice forms prevents the fruit from freezing internally. Incredible but true.

The management of the rejected fruit due to Scirtothrips aurantii is a real challenge. No fresh market for them, juice industry should support its harvest with real better prices (record high prices in the Orange Juice Futures Market) with administration @GVAagricultura support.

Citrus fruits are a business of volume & low prices. "If more than 60 Tm/ha aren't produced & at least 60% of the fruit isn't exportable, you are in trouble" @ProCitrusPeru. Costs have increased considerably, affecting non-patented varieties, which aren't profitable for export.

Florida's orange juice production is the fewest since 1930, Brazil is struggling & losing battle against HLB too, so futures of OJ are reaching historic highs. This situation doesn't reach citrus growers, it's staying in juice industry. "Habit is the greatest desensitizer"Beckett

There seems to be an optimal average temperature range between 14° & 25°C where Scirtothrips aurantii activity is heightened. These values correspond in our conditions from mid March to entire June & from September to mid November. Outside this range, the number of captures drops.
