EXPERT TIP: Since pesto and pestle come from the same Italian verb that means “to crush” or “to grind,” it’s no surprise that the first pestos were made using a mortar and pestle. It takes more work, but the result is worth it. Has anyone ever made pesto this way? #FoodTravelChat

Watch the pesto process happen in a food processor. This modern kitchen appliance makes for faster and larger batches of pesto compared to its predecessor, the mortar and pestle. But there are advantages to the slower, smaller batches made that traditional way.
