I absolutely love this @grok definition of me ๐. Someday I will talk about how much work it is taking for people to move away from knowing Oluwamayowa as a 'marketing guy' to being known as a 'strategy consultant'.

This works across board. If you have a boss that runs things by you, that's not the time to be politically correct. When I have some weird ideas, I run them by either Omons or Nancy (both super amazing ladies I'm so privileged to have worked with directly). "Do you think this is weird, do you think I'm overthinking this, would this make sense to the audience." They will literally ask me deep questions that sometimes make me see how ridiculous some of those propositions sound.
Just a little tip for the younger "engineers" out there: When a conversation like this is brought to you by the CEO, they are not really looking for the "correct answer" from you. It's not a school test. They need to talk to someone! They are about to make a difficult decision, and - being human beings - they actually need to talk things through. And get a little pushback! These CEOs got balls like you wouldn't believe. You don't need to be careful with them. Call them on their bs - they'll totally get intrigued and seek out your consulting them. What makes the whole thing worthless is if you try to mirror what you think is their opinion. If you at least don't mirror but you've got no clue, and no calling out, then all you are good for is being a mirror. They will not seek you out. The best sounding board for CEOs is like this: 1. Accepts their authority. 2. Doesn't lick boots. 3. Notifies them of actual nonsense, insanity or inappropriateness. High performers sometimes get carried away in mania, and they want to know that. 4. Fuel their mania ๐! They want the mania, but they need to stop just short of the cliff of insanity. 5. Celebrate what's going on, if it's worthy. They depend on some form of aggregate social feedback. They are CEOs - they can just push through any individual resistance, but they need the aggregate form. 6. Has got a clue - that's great and valuable. But note that I did not put it first. Being CEO, they are "Rome" and all ways in the company lead to them. They know what they are doing, and have a clue already. 7. Ask back! Probe their views a bit. That's why they came to you in the first place. This should be a pretty good list. Did I miss anything? Chime in, leaders! What do you need in *them*?

Basically, Build substance and not be under pressure to impress. But please come out when you need to be out, the shadow is to be for a while, for metamorphosis.
Remain in the shadows for as long as you can. That's where you grow the most. In the shadows, you are unseen, undiscovered, not being surveilled, and free from the pressure to โshow upโ in a certain way. Stay in the shadows. If you find yourself in the shadows right now, take the time to appreciate it. VT

I imagine God as an operational manager who has a clear focus and constantly looking for willing and competent hands to do the right things at the right time so that the request made by some other person is delivered, or so that His big dream and goal comes through in due time.
Let me tell you about @TheDestinyTrust. The African charity provides housing for out-of-school kids and gives them access to quality education. Four years ago, I was scrolling on Twitter (as X was then called), when I saw a random post from @tosinolaseinde talking about the organization's work. I mistook them for another charity I'd previously heard about and was intending to support, and so my foundation sent a donation. Upon realizing they were not the originally intended organization, for some reason, I kept supporting them. Now, I'm not the type to take packs of food to orphanages every Christmas. They are not my foundation's CSR focus. But for some reason, we have stayed. After a while, we decided to support the education of 20 kids from primary school to university. This might be a 15-year financial commitment. ๐ช๐ต๐ ๐๐บ ๐ ๐ง๐ฒ๐น๐น๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฌ๐ผ๐ ๐ง๐ต๐ถ๐? A number of serendipitous events happened: 1. I had a desire to support a charity (albeit a different one). 2. Tosin tweeted at the right time. 3. The Destiny Trust had a structured platform that could receive a grant. 4. God wanted to impact the destinies of a specific group of children. ๐๐ฒ๐๐๐ผ๐ป๐ ๐๐ฟ๐ผ๐บ ๐ ๐ ๐๐ป๐ฐ๐ผ๐๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ฟ After that experience, I learnt the following: 1. I was probably not God's first choice, since orphanages don't naturally spark my interest. But I was available and followed through. 2. Tosin had no clue she would indirectly shape the destinies of 20 souls with a tweet. 3. The Destiny Trust didn't come looking for me. But they were busy doing the Lord's work - helping children. 4. There might be others God directs to support the orphanage. As long as the organization focuses on the mission, God will keep sending help. 5. Collaboration is the key to implementing God's projects.
