Natural Resources Officer Stafford was patrolling in a new law enforcement UTV at Portage Lakes State Park. He spoke with park visitors who were riding their APVs on the frozen lake surface about rules & regulations to help ensure everyone had a safe & fun time out on the ice.

Aww, look at our newest class of Natural Resources Officers! This photo is from when they entered the academy. They graduated January 17 from the @OSHP Academy as part of its 151st graduating class of Basic Peace Officers. Congratulations to the graduating class!

Our forestry team spoke @ Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio's Youth Empowerment Institute. Our forestry staff shared career options in forestry & what a typical work day looks like. They took the kids on a hike to discuss tree ID & importance of forest management & health.

We don't mind spending our Groundhog Day at any of these stunning wetlands across the state! Wetlands filter out toxins that affect our water. More restored wetlands result is less phosphorous.

Last week, we discovered the wetland pond at our Headquarters was covered in a fascinating frost called hoarfrost. Hoarfrost forms when water vapor condenses directly into ice, similar to how dew forms during warmer weather. 📸: Adam Lanzillotta

Winter wildlife is quite a treat to see! @OhioDivWildlife staffer recently captured an incredible video of a red fox hunting at Magee Marsh Wildlife Area 🦊 The agile fox finds its prey, leaps into action and then caches the meal for later. Watch it here:

Our Natural Resources Officer (NRO) cadets will participate in 5 months of training through @OSHP peace officer program. Upon completion, they'll begin NRO training that includes water rescues, boat navigation & more. They’ll finish up training in the field with mentor officers.
