TVXQ for Beginners - Essential Songs (a thread)
Note - these songs are what I personally consider essential TVXQ listening. If you disagree that is 100% okay, this is only my opinion, so please don't hate me if I miss your fave track!
Let's get started!
For all these younger kpop fans coming out of the woodwork stating that TVXQ are too old - remember a few things:
1. Being in your 30s is not old.
2. Your idols will age too, and you with them.
3. Many amazing performers are older.
Deal with it.
So many young kpop fans do not even think about TVXQ and their impact any longer, nor do they even realize how big TVXQ were during the 2nd gen. I was there - believe me - they were IMMENSELY popular.
some people rly do not know the extent of tvxq popularity back in the days but you got to hear it from their own colleagues who actually were part of that era just how massive they were (and still legendary now)
we lived through the era before 720p videos became a norm yall
@gwxisms
I have been into kpop since 2002 and I am 34 years old. Liking music and being a part of fandom doesn't have an age limit and I bet you'll think the same as you get older.
Also...how can you not stan men like them?
To me, the most disappointing aspect of this whole CBX lawsuit is the reality that SM hasn't changed at all since 2009 and JYJ. Of course we already knew they were gonna be shady - its SM - but to hear it over and over again...🧵
I think you realize now - you poked the sleeping bear. We TVXQ fans have been around for 20 years. We were the biggest and most powerful fandom at one point. TVXQ are legends, do not disrespect them or the bear will wake.
I've been a Cassiopeia since 2003. I have supported TVXQ through thick and thin. I have watched as Changmin and Yunho worked their asses off year after year. TVXQ alone have lined SM's pockets with millions of dollars. And yet, they continue to be ignored and forgotten. 🧵
As a Changmin bias Cassie since debut i have to admit i am really happy to see Changmin get the appreciation he deserves right now. Back in the older years (2004-2009) Changmin was always considered one of the least popular members of TVXQ and as such he got less screen time.
Since it seems like people are interested....
What it was like being an international TVXQ fan between 2004-2009, a thread:
Disclaimer - I am American and this is told through my lens. If you had a differing experience, please share it!
I've been asked by younger kpop fans how I could love TVXQ so consistently over all these years. Don't I get bored with them?
No. I've never been bored with TVXQ. I wasn't bored in 2004 and I am still not bored now. 💕
SM: TVXQ just aren't as profitable any longer in Korea, and we have no idea why!
Cassies: Lack of group promotions for 5 years, last album was barely promoted at all, no new releases of group content outside of SM Town, concept recycling...
I could go on.
You don't have to like the 1st and 2nd gen kpop groups/acts that came before your faves. You are entitled to your opinion and to enjoy what you enjoy.
But you do need to respect the older groups - they built the foundation your group stands on.
I am the same age as Changmin, I am allowed to say this - it's hilarious how "old man" TVXQ act. I'm watching their "20&2" fanmeet and in the span of an hour, we have Yunho getting locked out of an IPad, Changmin forgetting Rebel choreo, and them both dropping things. 😆😆
#TVXQ
deserves a Korean comeback.
@SMTOWNGLOBAL
is just wasting their potential and throwing away millions in potential earnings. Cassiopeia is not gone, we just have received very little respect from SM, so we've gone silent.
#SMRespectTVXQ
For those of you who doubt TVXQ and their relevance. Who doubt their legacy. Who doubt their 20-year success in an industry that usually only has a 7 year survival rate. All this after a split that would likely ruin any other group.
TVXQ are legends for a reason.
It's so sad that
#TVXQ
, one of the most legendary kpop groups to ever exist has been so dismissed by their own company that newer kpop fans have no idea who they are. Thank you for mentioning them!
#SMRespectTVXQ
With Changmin mentioning to Eric on Daebak that TVXQ had nothing planned for their 20th anniversary yet - I could feel my anger bubbling to the surface. The fact that
@SMTOWNGLOBAL
has to be requested by their legendary group to give a shit is heartbreaking.
Okay - pannchoa out here again trying to slander Changmin by misrepresenting what he actually said. He is actually bringing up how most younger artists only look up to him because of one factor - they don't recognize everything that it took to get to where TVXQ are now.
It's so sweet that Minho did that for TVXQ but it's so sad that SM cares that little for their legend group that they didn't even get customized mics even though everyone else had them. I wonder if SM remembers that TVXQ were the group that saved them from financial ruin?
Minho actually gifted TVXQ customized mic during their fan meet. He says that everyone in SM has their own customized mic so it’s not acceptable that TVXQ don’t have them.
The mic money was actually the fees that Minho was supposed to accept for his mc fee at TVXQ’s fan meet.
Hung out with my 72 yr old musician father yesterday - in the car, TVXQ's 20&2 album started to play - he asked how long they'd been active and I said 20 yrs. His response:
"That is very impressive. I respect anyone who can make it that long. Talented guys."

[ Breaking ] Kakao has decided to dismiss a large number of current executives, including SM's CEO Jang Cheol-hyuk, Tak Young-jun, Lee Seong-soo, and Park Joon-young, and establish new leadership
Kakao has also discovered a number of problems. An official from a large agency
I am so overjoyed that
#TVXQ
didn't just take their 20th anniversary to release something usual. They decided to push the boundaries AGAIN and prove that they can still hold their legendary title even this long into the game. I am SO PROUD of them!
#TVXQ_20n2
I wish I had the time, talent and patience to make youtube videos. Because there is a severe lack of TVXQ in so many kpop focused channels and its so disheartening.
The confidence and swagger they exude! Like this is why experienced kpop groups are needed - because they bring a different energy and vibe with their presence.
THIS IS HOW MEN PERFORM. GROWN MEN. 🔥🔥
The recent concerts in Manila are once again proving
#TVXQ
's abilities and staying power. So many people who hadn't been interested before were blown away by TVXQ and are now listed fans.
@SMTOWNGLOBAL
give TVXQ a comeback and stop wasting them.

I was 14 years old when I came across TVXQ for the first time. I had no idea that this incredible group would give me so many years of joy, great friends and happy memories. Thank you
@TVXQ
, forever and always!
If you have not watched this MV, do yourself a favor and watch it RIGHT NOW! Everything is on point, the choreo, the outfits, the staging, the dancers, the whole thing being one-shot....its insane!!
The audacity to leave TVXQ off of multiple lists of sexy idols when they are out here lookin' like a whole meal every day ---
Let's start a thread of
#TVXQ
serving 🔥🔥
To all baby Cassies or newer fans who stumbled head first into
#TVXQ
through the
#SMTOWN_LIVE
yesterday - I am always happy to help you in getting started I learning about TVXQ! I promise I don't bite! 🥰
Reality check here - none of them owe us an explanation. Feel nostalgic all you want, but if HoMin or Jae or Su do or do not want to bring up the past, then they have that right. They have all made it to their 20th anniversary individually - let's celebrate that.
Blame me all u want for expecting too much for their 20th anniv, but HoMin keeping their mouth shut all this time abt the other 3 members just made feel like an emotionally neglected child.
Did DB5K really exist or was it just a figment of my imagination?
Two things stood out to me here - Yunho saying that his high note in Down would be confused as Changmin's (it was), and Changmin stating how "numbers do matter" and maintaining a career 20 yrs in takes a lot of hard work.
These photos are going to be my response to those who say idols loose their face cards as they age. I'm sorry, TVXQ are both 35+ years old and yet haven't lost any of their spark - their visuals are top tier. 👌
To one of the longest running, still active and immensely successful kpop groups of all time who captured my heart in 2003 and whose songs became the soundtrack to my life. Happy anniversary
@TVXQ
, may your stars always continue to shine!
I almost cried during I Believe - it just made me think....TVXQ has been there with me since I was 14. They are the soundtrack to my life. I have never found another group like them.
#TVXQ
are special to me. I am so proud to be their fan.
#20yearswithtvxq
SM loves to hold themselves up as the bastion of the kpop world, the original kpop company, full of growth and potential. But behind the facade, their groups are pushed to their breaking point, mentally, physically, and financially.
1/? It is incredible to me that so many newer kpop fans, no matter their own age, look at TVXQ and think, 'this group doesn't matter and has never mattered because I didn't see them before 2016 so therefore, they must not be worth anything. Gross they are old.'
Listening to Dinner by TVXQ and I almost cried as I thought, kpop is nothing to me without them. TVXQ are my home and my comfort. For any fans who have been with them since the beginning like me...I think we may feel the same.
@Moodz_wings
Shim Changmin of TVXQ has always been my bias - but seriously, I find him ridiculously attractive! I've always felt he had a unique look that set him apart from a lot of other idols.
All I want is for
#TVXQ
to be treated better overall. To be given the recognition and praise they have earned and fully deserve, and a team who actually does their job promoting their activities properly.
Hey followers! We all care about TVXQ, right? Or at least, I hope you do! I am working with a few other fans on the Road to 20 - A TVXQ Fan Project to celebrate TVXQ's 20th Anniversary and would love if you all could participate!

Side note: I am also very proud of JYJ for doing what they felt was right for themselves and the future of kpop. They helped change how idols are treated in the industry and we should all be grateful for that.
Tohoshinki (TVXQ) Japanese Numbers, 2005-2021:
Pure album sales: 2.7 million
Compilation album sales: 943,783
Live Concert albums: 1.2 million
Remix albums: 91,648
All concerts attendance total: 5,732,000 people
This basically puts into question every single contract SM holds AGAIN and yet SM likely doesn't care because they can just find another loophole and continue making slave contracts while also not paying their idols.
Now, due to Kingdom, his radio show and TVXQ's performance on SM New Years concert, kpop fans are starting to finally notice him for his talent, humble attitude, sassy sense of humor and kind demeanor. The qualities that made him my ultimate bias all those years ago.
I loved this video!! Basically, it explains why
#TVXQ
is a legend, how they are a bastion of the kpop genre, how they are the foundation of the current kpop culture, and how they revived kpop after their debut.
#20yearswithtvxq
TVXQ still have so much more potential than SM seems to believe. If
@SMTOWNGLOBAL
actually put effort into a 20th anniversary comeback for TVXQ, they would get more people interested. TVXQ is only forgotten because SM doesn't promote or pay attention to them.
If only SM woke up earlier to realize that TVXQ members will still potentially gain a lot of fans more than they ever thought like WHY DONT SM PROMOTE THEM MORE WTF
They found TVXQ just wandering a hallway and said, "oh yeah we need to film this - say something...go."
As for the others - they found the rooms with the worst lighting possible.
TVXQ are hilarious and adorable together - they've done so much variety like content in Japan...its just that in Korea they've basically been ignored by SM for 5+ years and not on any shows. It's hard to be funny if not given the chance to showcase it.
#TVXQ
have been ignored and pushed to the side for far too long. They deserve a well thought out, incredibly promoted, creative Korean comeback
@SMTOWNGLOBAL
. Cassiopeia has waited far too long already.
What my non kpop fan husband thinks about TVXQ's "20&2" - for science and a laugh. Yes, I did make him listen to it in the car, and yes, he is the most supportive partner in the world. He's sat through SMTown concerts with me, and has admitted he likes TVXQ. 🧵
