Started this personal account to distinguish from my labs site. I’ve started swimming again after a 7 year hiatus and while it’s a long road ahead super excited to start down the path. Advice, encouragement all welcome! I’ll also be posting some science too along the way!

3000yds today and didn’t die doing 5x 100 IM on 2:00. Also didn’t drown doing first time 75 fly on 1:30. Turns still suck; streamline from start is around 16yds. Getting it. Anyone got any drills or tricks to improve turns? Mine suck

Dryland today! Pools shut because it’s NYE here. 44 mins of squats, planks, core rotation and swim pulls, followed by a nice cool dip in the pool nearby - it’s 86 out!

Great 3000m workout to close out the year. Mostly breast tho some drills and free, and some mid back. Goal for 2025 is crack the 100 in under 1:00. Wish me luck! #swim #swimmer

Day 2 of summer training camp in Brisbane πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί. 3200m a good mix of IM, mid distance, drills and sprints. Finally over jet lag so throttles are open!

I’m mostly over at the other site (oceansci_swim) but will share here that I’ve completed a bunch of workouts, most recently in Brisbane, πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί. It’s been primarily tech stuff, working on balance, push offs, turns, and things that could save a few s. Times have come down. #swimmer

2500m today in the pool. Mostly free, some zipper, catch up and underwater freestyle drills. Video review says my hips still sinking, explains the 2 second gap between pulling and not pulling. Any advice? #swimming

Solid 3000m in the pool this evening. Trying a new freestyle breathing drill workout, which went well. Catch ups. Zippers, but had trouble with the paddle on forehead. Then last 1000 was IM. Loving this, would love to find a team to work with some day.

Solid 2700m today working on free rotation. I honestly hate doing the pull buoy between your ankles, but it’s a good workout… now to make turns tighter. Any advice?

3000m freestyle technique today. Taking it slow to start to improve technique though still got a thorough workout. Kick still sucks. Got a new snorkel so hopefully that will help me focus on body position. Also, I know my elbow is too high! #swimming #freestyle

Amazing 2750 today at the UQ pool in Brisbane Australia. 9x 200 free and 9x 150 IM. Pity the pool filter was broken down so water quality was awful!

Solid 2400 slower set focused on stroke today, 4 x 50 IM in the warmup to start then 3 x 200IM in the main set. Doesn’t sound like much but for someone who couldn’t even fly more than 25 in a set this is an achievement! Now if I can kick the frogging… years of water polo…

Not lap swimming but a solid workout! 60 mins of kick, duck diving to 10 ft, and anoxic working on the seafloor. All that training helped!
