I love (hate) that I was deep into Steven Universe discourse 10+ years ago because now I know so much useless shit. Did you know that these (allegedly) came from a 4chan draw thread
This seller has some other traffic safety videos for sale but this is the first one they've listed that's a tie-in for an anime series. There's a specific Kitaro educational video I've been trying to find for YEARS now but it's not traffic related so I'm like... plz... UHFJGUHFJG
Now available on IA!! This Giant Robo doujinshi is mostly a collection of 4Koma comics, but the middle contains some brief character bios along with a newspaper parody!! You can read it here:
There's multiple people crying. In the middle of the room/funeral service, there's a giant projector showing footage of one of the pachinko games. This might be the best thing I've ever watched.
nsfw ///
Everything about this (including the callout itself) is a fucking disaster, but all of the QRTs saying “omg let girls have hobbies” when this person is masturbating in public in a theme park full of children are fucking WEIRD.
Now available on IA!! This is an educational video featuring characters from Magical DoReMi teaching children about traffic safety. You can watch it here!!:
This arrived today!! Here's how it looks without deinterlacing/any other filters (first pic). It has some video stabilization issues that affect certain areas (second pic) but overall I'm very satisfied. I will have it up within the next few days.
Random Kaiji sighting in this SEGA/video game doujinshi. It’s dated December 1997. Besides a 1996 Akagi doujinshi, I haven’t come across any other FKMT related doujin from this time frame.
As stated on my Ko-Fi page, my main archiving project going forward will be scanning and cleaning the Giant Robo settei I own. A lot of these sheets are already online, but I still wanted to share my scans regardless. Here's a sheet of Yoshi I've already cleaned.
This artist made a bunch of different FKMT paper crafts, but it looks like none of them were archived, even through the WayBack Machine. This video was deleted as well. Mini Washizu is lost media...
@midtowncowboys
Urusei Yatsura's English Dub history is so cursed (/lh) because you have the BBC dub, the Animax Asia dub which only has a few clips online, and one that no one can confirm the existence of called "Cosma The Invader Girl" which is most likely made up by one guy
I looked into this a year ago because IIRC there’s only one source on the lost media wiki and it’s from fucking Something Awful but tl;dr if it is real, it wasn’t archived through the guys blog on the Wayback Machine, but the animator was (allegedly) a huge creep IRL. so.
I’m surprised at the elitism/gatekeeping in the lost media community, because a lot of it is just kids having fun and looking for stuff. SkibidiToiletFan2012 isn’t going to be looking for a lost silent film 😭
Looking at closed auctions through AucView. I've never seen these Giant Robo settei sheets before!! I think that's Rinchuu in the first photo. There were 11 sheets in total, but the seller only showed 3 of them 😔
No clue why OP is being so vague about the website, but this was on Mandarake. They tend to have some crazy stuff during their Big Web Auctions. There's some layout stuff that isn't included with the original tweet:
Someone was auctioning off the original "pathetic" Asuka animation cel today. I thought about bidding for it but I knew there'd be no point, it went for an astronomical price in the end.
I should have the archive updated tomorrow!! I want to double check and make sure I didn't miss anything. Some of these sheets are really similar to one another!! I thought the one on the left was just a shadow casting ref until I saw Ginrei's sleeves!!
In total, there's about 10 sheets that are either brand new to my archive, or will replace my old sheets that have printing/cropping errors. I hope to add them within the next few days ^^
Showcasing an old upload:
Back in 2021, a bunch of pachinko/pachislot data discs were listed on Yahoo Japan Auctions, each containing assets mostly for promo stuff. (.pngs/screenshots etc.)
This Kaiji one, however, contains Photoshop files with layers that you can mess with!!!
Where did all of the English speaking Kitarō fans come from after GeGeGe no Nazō came out. I couldn’t even find a fansub of it until like 2 weeks ago but I saw so many gifs of Mizuki and Medama Oyaji with english captions on top. Who are you people!
Having 6teen as an example of not-weird Canadian animation is kind of insane to me because one of the only prominent memories I have of watching that show is seeing one character throw up in another characters mouth.
Collection of some of the Osomatsu-kun "settei" I got today :] The seller said there was about 12ish sheets in this batch, but half of them were duplicates lol... you can check the rest of them out here!!:
Now available on IA!! An original broadcast recording of episode 8 of "Dokincho! Nemurin" from around 1984. Includes lots of commercials!! Check it out here:
watched a show called "akuma-kun" and somehow i find another obscure anime woman that like three people know and who i will be super annoying about for the rest of time
Recent purchase: This MOTHER/Earthbound doujinshi from 1994!! There’s a source online that says the artist behind this could be associated with Enix Comics, so I’m excited to get ahold of this :]
In total, there's about 10 sheets that are either brand new to my archive, or will replace my old sheets that have printing/cropping errors. I hope to add them within the next few days ^^
It boggles my mind that YuruGege was removed from the App Store before GeNazo was released!! I think new fans would’ve loved it, it was so cute…
“It’s just battle cats but with Gegege no Kitaro characters.” Yes, but it was so much more… (sniffles)
Something weird I noticed is that Shizuma’s name is クェラー (Kueller? Queler??)… It’s on all of his sheets in this batch. I don’t remember the other Shizuma’s sheets I own having this name, but my memory is foggy…
I highly recommend the 1996 Gegege no Kitaro anime series along with Hakaba Kitaro. Hakaba is fully subbed (and will soon be available on RetroCrush!!) but the 1996 series is unfortunately unavailable in English in its entirely. Main reason why I I started learning Japanese lol
Sorry for the lack of updates on the Kaiji storyboard!! I'm now approx. 30% done scanning/cleaning it. There's 110 sheets, so it's been a long process lol, but I'm going to focus more of my time on it.
Going down a completely different rabbit hole now. Fukumoto was on an educational show (it seems to be aimed at families/children???) and he drew Kaiji for one of the hosts. Unsure yet whether or not this is still online...
Trying to find more screenshots of FKMT mobile games. T1neye is not giving me the same results it did last year. Results are missing. It's a tad bit concerning (sweats)
LRT is for reference purposes (plushie I'm making for a friend) but I'm sort of losing my mind thinking about a Washizu plushie with those proportions.
I think Nezumi Otoko would be accepting of the LGBT+ community in the sense that he would try selling potions that make people gay like those dark web YouTube videos
Calling specific types of anime fans “Tourists” will never be an insult to me. I’m sorry. It reminds me too much of when I would see other users call each other “baka gaijins” and it always makes me laugh.
Now available on IA!! This doujinshi focuses on the last few episodes of "Yatterman", along with the rest of the "Time Bokan" series!! Even if you don't speak Japanese, there's a ton of super cool illustrations and diagrams throughout. Check it out here:
The name comes from a 1980s commercial for Soba of all things. If you look up “ウーパールーパー CM” you can find different variations of the ad on YouTube. Each one uses a song with lyrics by Amii Ozaki. (It’s catchy as hell too)
Working on a translation featuring axolotls - and turns out the Japanese word for axolotl is quite the 和製英語 (pseudo-anglicism): ウーパールーパー (ūpārūpā), from "Whooper Looper." Seems the word was created to avoid the original, ahorōtoru, which sounds like "dumb old fart."
I want to read the original Nurarihyon chapter now that my Japanese is better… my sister bought some Kitaro manga for me as a gift when she visited a Kinokuniya :] I remember Nurarihyon using “boku” and it really shocked me LMAO
The Giant Robo settei on IA has been updated!! Here's an example of one sheet that's been replaced with a higher quality version. In addition, Rinchu now has two settei sheets instead of one, and Ginrei now has two additional sheets. Check it out below!!:
VHS tapes finally arrived!! They’re not Hawaiian ENG subs like I thought they would be, but they’re still really insane. TV programming from Japan circa 1983ish-1985ish. All commercials. I just started going through them. One tape without any labels on it has Korean TV on it???
