One thing I’m realizing is American media never creates the narrative that not acting or reacting is actually another choice a character has. An ‘active’ character is always preferred, even when those choices make things worse.

I enjoyed the book. Have yet to see the movie.
Although the book is written by a white man, I felt my culture was seen, even if it's used to create a mashup of some future religion. I hope it can lay the groundwork for more Muslims to write space fantasy.
