Before 2021, West Ham had never reached the group stages of a European competition. 3 years later, we’ve played 37 European fixtures in 13 countries, winning 70% of them, scoring 69 goals, and lifting a trophy. Beyond proud. The best years I’ve ever had as a football supporter.

@GaryAPrince Indeed but they do absolutely have a point about these players playing way too much football - not that this argument is any less of a cop out mind you.

@Hammer_On_X It’s not though - the World Cup break itself didn’t massively benefit/hinder any team any more significantly than the other, but what it did do is give those with European football a frankly inhumane fixture schedule.

@Hammer_On_X @d8532211 We were in that position after the WC break largely due to fixture congestion. We had a weeks rest ONCE between games (international breaks aside) and that was between our 1st and 2nd games of the season. We played every 3/4 days, travelling around Europe, with 8/9 new players.

@Hammer_On_X Indeed but it’s not *that* comparable because Spurs, or anybody else for that matter, haven’t had a winter World Cup slapped in the middle of the season like we did. They’ve had/will have much more recovery time between matches - even if they make to the europa league final.
