This is called trauma bonding. You are bombarded with love and then it’s withheld. Your entire nervous system adjusts to this.
Your brain misinterpretes this as emotional bonding because although the abuser is the person punishing you, they also provide that huge high.
Being shown love and hate simultaneously is how abuse works, that’s what manipulates you. That’s why it’s so hard for people to leave abusive situations, be it physical or emotional.
