The worst is how often this is encouraged and if you don't do it people think you just don't have experience regarding the topic at hand as opposed to... you don't want to bait out your entire bloodline's traumatic experiences for a debate point.
I love how every statement in a DSA debate always opens with “As someone who…”, “My grandfather once experienced…”, “I come from a background…”, etc. End the tyranny of lived experience!! Take ideological positions and defend them on their own merits

nobody is telling u to read marx to understand oppression, u can read the bible or a gazillion other socialists for your blessed are the poor analysis.
This is why white people struggle so mightily with class analysis. No Black person "needs" to read Marx to understand oppression. But for white folks oppression is an abstract theoretical framework to question themselves about how they'd respond to being oppressed.
