Thoughts on characters who have negative development? Characters who are unhinged, unapologetic, make horrible mistakes, and descent further into their worst traits. I love seeing a hero rise, but sometimes it's nice to see them fall...because not everyone does the right thing.

Just an FYI, I plotted a book for the first time in my life, and I wrote the entire thing (80k) in less than 2 months. And halfway through my first round of edits, it’s the best work I’ve ever done. Plot your novel!!!

I've always heard writers say the first draft is the 'trash draft,' but if you are an extremely thorough plotter, I really think the first draft can come out looking pretty good. I'd rather not completely rewrite every first draft because I didn't plan well enough 🫠

Biggest piece of advice I can give to

writers that helped me get a higher request rate (it seems obvious, but hear me out) - TAKE YOUR TIME. It's hard to see others get agents and deals, but there is no reason to rush 🫶 Edit, edit, edit, and get beta readers first!

Don’t be discouraged if it takes a while to find your drafting flow - my first book took 2.5 years and is still shelved… my second book took 2 months to draft and it’s currently with three literary agents. This craft takes time! Keep working at it 🫶🏻

Being a querying writer is preferring personalized rejection over form but then crying over a personalized rejection because it sort of leads you toward appropriate edits, but...not really because it can also be a preference thing? Chins up, keep editing, keep trusting yourself🫶

. When editing your work, do your BEST to pretend it's not yours. Disconnect yourself from your darlings and be a ruthless (effective) critic. I think editing is way more fun when I forget about all the work I did to write the manuscript.
