I want to do a small analysis of
#LUCAS_Renegade
's MV because I can't find anyone to talk about it but I love this MV and I need to explain my thought about its meaning.
I hope SM won't push
#LucasWong
into sexy concepts again, because It made him popular at first but it also destroyed his whole career. People believed these ridiculous allegations because everyone thought he was the persona SM made for him : a sexy and confident jock.
He already sold more than 15000 copy for his solo debut, with a cancel, no promotion and a long hiatus. Compare to others idols in his situation. It's great, trust me. Lumis should be proud of him and celebrate because his debut is a success🩷
I would like to be able to show this picture to the two months ago Lucas, who was wondering with teary eyes if he would have fans again.
#LUCAS_FANCON
#LUCAS_FIATLUX_JAKARTA
Choose your bias in Lucas' staff:
a) SM man who accidentally became a fanboy
b) Angelic Noona who always praise him
c) caring hyung who tattooed "Renegade" on his arms
d) Manager who took care of him when he felt depressed
Lucas' content before : being encouraged to maintain a sexy image, being confronted to things he hates for entertainment, being mocked for not being fluent in several languages
Lucas' content now : wearing comfy clothes, going to nice places, being praised, eating a lot of food
I feel Mark and Lucas, both the same age but giving a different impression, faced a reversed experience when they began to work.
Mark didn't like to be forced to be childish and cute because he wanted to grow up.
Lucas missed being childish and cute because he grows up too quick.
We need to talk about this, not only for Lucas, but for idols in general, because international fan still think idols apologizing mean they're admitting faults. It's a lack of knowledge about countries with confucian's heritage.
Hum… to the people who Quotetweet…
Maybe Sohee know what it feels like to have a friend who were wrongly accused and bullied over false rumors?
Maybe it happened to someone he knows? 🤔
I noticed some Renegade's lyrics confused people, so I wanted to clear them.
For some reason, most haters who thought the song was dumb misunderstood some crucial the lyrics. The most misread parts are "fan favorite" and the"rookie" mention.
First, Lucas was accused of being a sugar baby and cheating. Nothing else. There are tons of thread debunking the photoshopped pictures, the edited text, grammar errors, schedules mistakes… anyone really studying the accusation can tell this was lies.
@riizefolder
The fact Riize fans cries about the false rumor about Seunghan but keep spreading false rumor about Woojin is the saddest irony.
They both did great!
I never thought the sasaeng scandal was the only reason why Lucas was in hiatus. He was exhausted and overworked since he was a teen.
The Freeze documentary show him saying he was "out of his mind" for "doing the things he did", and show him performing. It says a lot.
No joke, if
#Lucas
get a girlfriend (or boyfriend) one day, the fandom better not go after her/him. He deserves to be loved and be happy about it. Enough of toxic selfish fan's jealousy.
If it happens, I count on everyone to welcome our Queen/Kind Lumi.
My heart his filled with gratitude for the manager who took care of Lucas during his hiatus, convinced him to go outside after six months of isolation, who never let him down and still show his appreciation and support.
Thank you for taking care of Lucas when we couldn't 🩶
It's not because Lucas chooses to come back he's healed. Coming back is part of the healing process. He has to get use to everything again, take it slow, and promotional events can be tiering. Right now, he probably needs his fans more than an exhausting schedule 🫶
Still, Lucas keep being harassed in Asia, and not mainly because of his supposed wrong-doings. He's called by racist slur, shamed for his language, dancing or rapping skills by korean and chinese antis.
What matters is Lucas is still loved by all those he worked with: others idols and staff members. He was always described as someone cute, hardworking and kind. That's the real Lucas.
What some netizen think of him based on debunked rumors doesn't matter.
NINE.i are currently in legal dispute with their agency, FirstOne Entertainement.
Here is a thread explaining the situation for new i.ENIN or anyone needing more information. Please, help us spread it.
#ProtectNINEi
NINE.i made their debuts 30 March 2022 with their MV, parallel universe. The group and their agency weren't famous, still, NINE.i gain a faithful fan base thanks to the talent of their member, the quality of the songs or MV and a regular promotion.
Inters antis can't help but think that hate must be justified, but the original accusations aren't that severe either, that's why they created new allegations and spread misinformations about him, to justify their online bulling.
But the thing is, idols have to apologize even if they're innocent. Japan and Korea have strong Confucianism heritage, valuing community over individual, peace over justice. The point is to avoid conflict, so the society can be harmonious.
The fact SM released an apology encourage people to think he's guilty, because occidentals wouldn't apologize for something they didn't do. The apology seems like as a confession for them, but only because their conception of apology is determined by their own culture.
And that's why Lucas wrote apologies and said he was sorry. But while he admitted a wrongdoing and felt sorry for its consequences, but he never admitted the original accusation (about being a sugar baby and cheating.)
He keep denying them in his song.
When people said to me "But what if the accusations are true?"
I wish. If he was a sugar baby, he dated two sasaengs to take their money… That man would be my hero.
"But as a woman how could you…"
As a woman I know what it means to have a stalker.
The MV begin during a press conference. Lucas is wearing a suit in a classy airport hall and talk to the journalists, but they don't really listen to him. Some look bored, some don't remove their eyes from him, but there is no sympathy. They're only there to write their article.
So, Lucas provoked a conflict with someone who was stalking him, that person creates a scandal in return and Lucas was considered as guilty because he should have avoided this situation impacting WayV, SuperM and NCT and his fans. That's why he apologized.
I love these pictures.
They had no need to do it, they just wanted to. They bickered in front of the camera for entertainment, but they nuzzled against each other affectionately in private.
Look how Lucas was grabbing Kai to get closer, smiling with his eyes. He was so happy 🤍
This part represent how Lucas' point of view of the allegations he endured. No one really care to know who send the arrow (accusations) or where they were coming from. People only looked at Lucas, his reactions, because they wanted his downfall to get a scandal to tell.
"Renagade" came from a latin word, "renegare," which mean "to deny". Lucas is the one who had been denied by the others when he was cancelled. Now, he's the one denying his haters the attention they want. He's dancing with/for his fans and their hate can't stop him anymore.
Finally, the lyrics let people understand this misadventure will make him an outcast, but also a symbol of hope for those who need him.
The bird are singing to let people know the night is over. The flame light the dark. This it what Lumi and Lucas will be for each others.
I usually don't retweet antis' tweet but this one is interesting to explain the situation Lucas is enduring, why it's useless to explain the situation to the antis and why you should ask for evidences.
Most antis don't hate the idols they target. It's their popularity crutch.
That's why Tayeong had to publically admit he scammed someone when he was innocent. It was proven after his public appologies. He did it to de-escalate the situation and move on.
So, I said to Lucas I loved Renegarde because it was about him and I asked him if he wanted to do personal songs in his next album.
He said he would do it and it would probably be a dark song. I'm so excited about it 🤩
The back dancers were with him since the beginning, in plan B. They followed him in the building, and they're in the background when he's getting ready for the press conference. Lucas was never alone. Lumis were always there, ready to dance with him again, when he would be ready.
The apologies acknowledge the fact people were hurt and he expressed how sorry he was. His "wrong-doing" is most likely he's admitting is he caused the scandal, even involuntary, by defying sasaeng and provoking them.
This explains the protest trucks, made to publically call out idols, and why some idols like Chen or Seunghan (who's only wrongdoing was to have a relationship) are constantly asked to leave their group even if they didn't do anything wrong.
He feel smaller and weaker than anyone else. People laugh at him, despite him or try to kill him, but no one is really trying to help. He try to escape, to hide, but nothing really work.
And those who break this harmony are shamed and punished, guilty or not. For many of his local antis, the point is not to know if he did something wrong, but the fact his scandal put a bad image on their group. This is why he's shamed and defamed.
Even if he never used the word "depression," Freeze / Unfreeze documentaries are amazing prevention material about depression. That testimony will help a lot of people to face their own hardship ❤️🩹
The journalist in the room are no longer bored interviewers. They're fans. They're not here to listen to his talk but to hear him rapping. They're enjoying the moment with him. This is what Lucas really want: to be loved by everyone as he do what he love.
Lucas overcame his need for recognition. He doesn't dance anymore for those who wanted to watch his downfall. He's leaving his old self, who tried to pleasure everyone. Now, he dances with those who stand by him. The back dancers, the "rebel nation": Lumis.
Lucas seems bored too, blinded by the photographs and annoyed by the surrounding sounds. He's still talking, trying to convince them, but something is happening to him. He's becoming more impatient. He doesn't enjoy that moment.
Chorus. Lucas looks directly at the camera, in the dark room. The journalists don't see him anymore. He imagines what he would do if he could be himself : dancing on the tables, raping in more comfy clothes, acting silly and goofy as he pretend to swim or to be a dinosaur.
Back from his fantasies, a red arrow suddenly hit Lucas' desk. The arrow didn't come from a journalist, but even if none of them were really interested before, everyone stood up to ask him questions. Strangely, no one wonder where the arrow came from.
Aslo, his personality also didn't really match his narcissist and self-centered image SM keep pushing about him. Everyone praise him as a considerate and affectionate in a very genuine way with the people he loved.
Some people pointed the dancing rat was ridiculous without noticing it's supposed to be ridiculous. Because it's how Lucas felt. This is his own perception of himself. His confidence his broken. He can't even do what he loved before: dancing, rapping and being confident about it.
Out of the frame, Lucas became surrounded by those arrows. He's already surrounded. He doesn't avoid the one hitting him in the heart and remove it as he still pretend everything is fine. But sitting on the desk, we can see he's trying to turn his back to protect himself.
Lucas didn't notice the arrows because he tried to ignore the accusations at first. But he couldn't. It hurts him despite everything, and he became the rat: small, fragile, ridiculized and hated by everyone, treated like a pest everyone wanted dead.
He dance on the tables as he used to do it in his dreams. He rip up the articles, showing he don't care anymore about the allegations. He took a camera from a photograph to take selfies: Lucas is taking back the control on his own image.
I have a soft spot for idol who endured depression or anxiety. It hit me on a personal level. When an idol come back after several months/years of mental health issues, it's a victory for me too. People who never surrender to despair continuously teach me a life lesson.
In Japan, severe bullying (ijime) isn't taken seriously enough because the victims are blamed for not "fitting" or trying to adapt to the group. In society where community prevails over individual, the individual is always wrong.
The journalists keep asking him questions, insensitive to the situation, and Lucas suddenly disappear from his desk. He got turned into a little mouse, coming from a suit too big for him, and face people gaze and judgement as they witness his misfortune with pleasure.
After being pushed to the edge, Lucas don't care anymore about people's opinion. He changes his clothes to something more rebellious, cross the room and dance in front of the exit with his back dancers, who appear for the first time, while everyone is watching.
Imagine working in entertainment agency, where everyone is about to rip your throat, competition drive you crazy, celebrities are nothing like you imagined…
Then you get assigned to an idol who came to your desk :"I bought you some cream puff because I'm really thankful 🥺"
So guilty or not, apologies from the accused one are needed, because it allows to ease the tensions. Christianity encourages forgiveness, but Christians societies hold grudge and asking for pardon mean a definitive public cancel. In Asian country, a real forgiveness is possible.
A long sequence shows different screens showing his interview and people watching him. Lucas is everywhere, in every house, every screen. He only exists through the screens and people's gaze. But at some point, Lucas seems to have enough of it and stand up.
This is how the persona SM made for Lucas destroyed him. So now, I hope Lucas will be able to sing as much as he wants, show a persona he's more comfortable with.
Lucas wearing a uniform because he said it's trendy to go to amusement park with a school uniform : Oh there is a lot of student!
Staff: They're not. They're just wearing uniforms like you.
Lucas *shocked pikachu face."
I can't with this kid 🤣
In Japan or Korea, people don't need to be guilty to make excuses. They're considered as partially guilty anyway because they're part of it, even as victims. Any kind of conflict and scandal has to be avoided at all cost.
I'm 100% convinced Renegade was written for Lucas. Maybe it was prewritten or preproduced, but this song's lyrics is absolutely about him and the song is made to highlight his own skills. Giving him to someone else would have take off what makes it meaningful.
Excuses can even lack of sincerity. You excuse yourself for the inconvenience provoked. Not something you did wrong. I recommend you to watch Kore-Eda's "Monster" to understand how it can be used by institutions as a way to avoid scandals without really admitting your faults.
Some antis just use Lucas as a way to drag attention on their group to gain some popularity. Don't interact.
If Lucas is flopping so bad and if their group is doing so well, I wonder why they need to use him as a popularity boos†… 🤔
I'm pretty sure Lucas didn't debut as a minor as some others members because they knew the sexy concept would be the best to promote him. As soon as he turned 18, he made his debut with shirtless pics as promotion.
But when the accusations came, everyone believed them, because the accusations didn't match the evidences, it matched Lucas' persona. For many people, it made sense a sexy, talentless, narcissist celebrity would take advantage of a naive woman.
The staff always praised him for being humble, talented and cute. But he still play his sexy confident role, in his own way, to the point I don't understand how people could think he wasn't joking about it all along.
Lucas entered SM as a mannequin, but he worked to be a good dancer and singer. Despite his hard work, the first impression remained. Many people still treated him as a sexy man with pretty privilege despite evidences he was talented.
Calling himself a "big tree", joking about being a "good singer", aware he was struggling with all the languages he had to master, ears red when he complimented himself… He indeed knew he was handsome, but he wasn't confident, just good at hiding his securities.
@hosheyfied
Scandalous! I can't believe they cheated on their fans! I demand to get my 200000 pcs to get refunds and will send a truck with all my money to ask them to break up!
Lucas mentioned The Handmaiden, so I will highly recommend you to watch that film. It's a visual masterpiece about two ladies trying to escape their condition. It switches between three different points of view and it's a mind blow each time.
It's not suited for minors, though.
The worse thing is he wasn't a bad dancer and even a less a bad rapper. He had a slow flow and deep voice and knew how to modulate it to make his lines dynamic and pleasant to listen (which is something when you know what's in most of NCT's lyrics…)
His persona was a confident himbo's one. It worked well with the fans and public in general. Despite all of this, there were a lot of signs showing he wasn't so confident. He made a lot of self-depreciating joke and said he still didn't succeed, so he couldn't face his mom yet.
Everyone said he was cute (not in an aegyo way), sometimes a little silly (he took it from Xiaojun), Ten called him his "giant baby" and he accepted the nickname happily.
He also worked hard on his singing's skills, and he was good. Being able to sing was his goal, singing was his hobby, and he never missed an occasion to show everyone how he improved and how much he wanted to pursue his career as a singer.
He was criticized for being "handsome but lacking of talents" even before the scandal. People even laughed at him when he spoke about his singing skill. Even some of his own fans thought he had none. His dancing skills were judged by Freestyle : Wow, where he didn't really shine.
