9pm Road Condition Update! - Roads are not in good shape as many are completely snow-covered and icy after this round of heavier snow. Reports of hazardous conditions tonight so take it slow and steady. Roads will improve significantly overnight as the snow ends and crews clean them up. #ilwx

830pm: Update on This Weekends Accumulating Snow Event (Fri-Sun) Summary: 2 Rounds of snow are likely this upcoming weekend both rounds have the potential to produce accumulating snow across northern Illinois. 1st Round (Friday late afternoon into Friday evening) - A quick moving round of snow for northern Illinois starting late Friday afternoon and ending later Friday evening. A quick couple of inches of snow is possible. Snow may continue across Wisconsin into Saturday. 2nd Round (Saturday late morning into Sunday morning) - A long-duration snow event potentially with accumulating snow at times during this time frame from Saturday late morning into Sunday morning. Several inches of snow is possible. This round has the most uncertainty right now on the duration/intensity of snow and amounts. Could be a lot or could be very little for accumulations depending on what model you want to favor. - Overall, a lot of variables exist in this weekend's snow event. Multiple rounds of snow starting Friday afternoon and ending Sunday morning will make for a tricky forecast. Any snowfall forecasts being posted to social media should be taken with a grain of salt because consistency with models right now does NOT exist. We hope to have more answers for you sometime tomorrow. #ilwx

People are nervous about the timing of the storm instead of the overall impacts and totals. The best way to stay informed as a someone from the public is keep an eye to the latest forecast. As you can see models and forecasters are not perfect. Until they improve, it's hard to say this won't happen again unfortunately. It's impossible to see coming. I hate to cry wolf because that is the wrong solution but cancelling activities for a winter events that happens a couple days a year is not a bad solution even if snow isn't as bad as it could be. Safety of students, parents, and everyone else is key. Everything can wait till tomorrow.
