I met my husband in law school. I used to get there early, like 6am, to study when the place was quiet, so I’d make the coffee for the whole school. Nothing special — just commercial airpot coffee — but everyone would drink it except this one jerk who brought his own personal French press every day and made his own coffee. Reader, I married him. And he would not let me put a nice drip coffee pot on our registry because he pledged to make the coffee daily, and I said I didn’t need fancy coffee, an IV drip of Sanka would be fine if it was hot and caffeinated. And things went on like this for a year until one day we were at Menards and I just saw a Mr. Coffee for $12 on a display and silently put it in the cart. He didn’t take it out. We’d reached a compromise. Now we have drip coffee, pour-over, French presses and a Moka pot and one of those touch screen Breville things and I have a Keurig in my master bathroom, and this is all to say marriage is for the long haul, learn and grow together.
