It’s true TBH most pregnant women carry their unborn baby in a discrete wheely suitcase or tote bag. Only fame-hungry D-listers like Meghan would have the audacity to have it in their uterus so openly displayed in the middle of their abdomen. 📸

@andreajenkyns @SteveBarclay We could probably also shorten an airline pilot’s training to 4 weeks, and nurses could just do a half day distance learning package in lieu of training. I’m sure you’d love your family to be treated by a junior who’d done LESS training than their predecessors. But yay Brexit!

As someone whos been double vaccinated since March and also been flat on my back with Delta V since yesterday, the thought of dropping all restrictions/saying it’s all over next week fills me with concern. Keep wearing a mask and avoid crowds. UKGOV doesn’t care, but you should.

@EdHutchison I would cringe so, so hard (and feel so disappointed with myself) if one of my colleagues felt the need to address me as Dr Francis. People who need their title to feel important have no natural authority. It’s really divisive within a team.

8 months of work, missed holidays/weddings, and being the worst husband in the world, but the stars have apparently aligned and I now have 4 extra letters to make me feel important. Now if the stars could stay that way and give me a Labour Gov’t that would be swell. #FinalFRCA

@LiangRhea On the face of it, the subservient apologetic tone we often use when referring is rather perverse - I’m just asking you to do your job. But actually being friendly and conscious that people have competing stresses from elsewhere probably encourages a more positive response.

Nursing staff being penalised (docked pay, disciplined, humiliated) for sleeping during their UNPAID breaktime on nightshift is draconian, inhumane and unsafe to patients and staff themselves. It’s another unthoughtout policy that has no place in a safe NHS. #fatigue

@timricketts_ The care is fairly standardised which is good - oxygen, dex, physio, nutrition. Remember the softer side: pts are scared, isolated and frustrated, so it’s amazing what a joke, a hand-hold, and a little pep talk can do!

I volunteered to be a subject for a regional anaesthesia course as a student (and about a stone ago). The course lead while demo’ing on me announced to the whole course “you’re very fat. If you ate less this would be easier”. So I just removed the probe from me and walked out.
So what’s the ballsiest thing you’ve all ever done as a medical student?👀

Make sure you locate the best place to cry. Sluice, drug cupboard (or nurses station if you prefer to weep surrounded by empty Celebrations boxes) are all valid options. Sometimes I’d like to find a pillow to scream into but spare pillows don’t exist in the NHS. #TipsForNewDocs

@KatPaton13 It does sound like a safety concern. Pushing IV drugs in a ward environment should never be deferred to those who don’t do it a lot, as that’s how mistakes can happen. I’d escalate this up via your team to nursing team as doesn’t sound like a fair or safe position you were put in

It’s obtuse of @TheBMA to say the “lack of ventilators” is due to decades of under-funding. A ventilator is a piece of equipment. But the issue is staffing. A ventilated patient needs a qualified ITU nurse and doctor, and *that* is what we lack due to underfunding. #COVID ー19
