This is an incorrect analysis. I can point to at least 20 odd seats in UP where BSP's candidates help cut into BJP's votes. Examples are, Kairana, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Ghaziabad, Kheri, Ghosi etc. On a lot of seats, BSP's candidates actually helped SP candidates in a big way.
