This year the NSFAS application cycle will run for a period of four months starting from today August 03, 2020, with the closing date being November 30, 2020.
NSFAS STATEMENT OF ALLEGATIONS OF R5BILL PAYMENT. NSFAS became aware of a trend on social media alleging the scheme had paid R5bill into a student’s account.This allegation is not true, & we can confirm that NSFAS did not make any payment amounting to R5 billion to any student.
NSFAS Statement: NSFAS notes the factually incorrect post, stating that students who receive the R350 relief grant do not qualify for NSFAS funding. We would like to clarify that applicants with a combined household income of more than R350 000 per year do not qualify for funding
We have noted with concern incorrect information that NSFAS will open for funding applications effective from 03 January 2018. We would like to announce that this information did not come from NSFAS. Applications for 2018 funding opened on 01 Aug and closed on 30 Nov 2017.

A total of 5000 students who were funded for the 2020 academic year have been recently unfunded. A recent financial information obtained from SARS has revealed that these students declared total household family income was above the R350 000 threshold.
