(This'll be a bit long.) There's been a lot of confusing talk about Puerto Rico Governor Rosselló being a Democrat. But this betrays a lack of knowledge about PR politics. PR politics turns on the "status question"—the relationship between the Island and the United States. 1/

Last class taught until January 2020. I am tired. I am weary. I could sleep for a thousand years.

I am proud of the students at @LawMcGill @McGillLSA for their eloquence and integrity. It pains me, however, to hear nothing—not a word—from @DeanLeckey in defense of the students of his Faculty. As we say in Spanish, "El que calla, otorga."

@AMPL_AMPD will have picket lines at every #congresshss held at @mcgillu . Faculty associations across Québec and Canada have committed to bring picketers in huge numbers. Do not cross a colleague's picket line. Do not put colleagues in the position to cross a picket line. 2/2

This, to me, is the most concerning problem. It underscores the sense that #PrincipalFortier has breached the trust of the @mcgillu community she leads and capitulated to the provincial gov't. #McGill200 should be an academic community first and a gov't agency never.

1/ I know everyone at McGill is mad at senior admins for making spurious claims about why vax mandates are bad. But from a public policy perspective, I'd argue that the bigger issue is why they feel the need to lie about the orders they have been given by the Legault govt.

Dear #McGill community: Be advised that, as of two days ago, you are no longer required to use the university’s contracted travel agency for research travel. You might have thought that @mcgillu would have announced the change in today’s email but, alas, they forgot.

I had read this paper by @willwilkinson a while back, after listening to the podcast version, but I ran across it again today and can't recommend it enough. A must read. "The Density Divide: Urbanization, Polarization, and Populist Backlash"

Dear McGill Arts colleagues, I am running for the Senate seat for @McGillARTS . This is an important vote. We are changing the model of governance at @mcgillu ! That's why I have been endorsed by #AMPFA , the new Arts Faculty union. THE VOTE ENDS TODAY AT 5pm! 1/4

Here is how you get a bona fide constitutional crisis: The Government of Puerto Rico has seen a week of massive protests. They began when a team of investigative journalists uncovered a secret online chat group... 1/

Excluding McGill law profs and academics unwilling to cross a picket line would seem a fairly significant breach of the Federation’s obligations under its contracts.

In less than a decade, I've gone from being the Ugly American who asked Philippe Lagassé if there was enough material on the Canadian Crown to fill a course, to the naturalized Canadian making liberal arguments in favo(u)r of constitutional monarchy. Improvement or regression?

@willwilkinson Of course, we could also do the sensible thing and separate the head of government from the head of state. You know, like a constitutional monarchy. Own your Canadian-ness, Will!

When introducing #DrFauci , Principal Suzanne Fortier said: "More than ever before the world relies on scientists…" Alas, #McGill200 relies more on QC politicians and in-house brand management when refusing to implement sound health policies for faculty, students, and staff.

Highlights of Dr. Fauci’s #McGillHomecoming lecture: 1) pandemic will be around for while & likely get worse with winter; 2) COVID is airborne 3) claimed liberty of few must give way to health of all. Given this, why is #McGill200 refusing to implement basic health measures?
