"The consequences of casting international humanitarian law to the wind will reverberate well beyond Gaza."
Yesterday, MSF secretary general Christopher Lockyear addressed the UN Security Council about the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza. 👇

While coronavirus made headlines, these crises didn't stop. Neither did we.
We are outraged and strongly condemn the killing of our colleague, Fadi Al-Wadiya, in an attack this morning in Gaza City. The attack killed Fadi, along with 5 other people including 3 children, while he was cycling to work, near the MSF clinic where he was providing care. 1/4
The UK govt's approach to migration is cruel and inhumane.
The absence of safe routes and the criminalisation of people seeking safety force more people to risk their lives at sea – with devastating effects.

"We did what we could. Remember us."
These words were written by Dr Mahmoud Abu Nujaila on 20 October.
He was killed in the attack on Al-Awda hospital on 21 November, one month after leaving this message.

We are horrified by the recent bombing of Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City, which was treating patients and hosting displaced Gazans. Hundreds of people have reportedly been killed. This is a massacre. It is absolutely unacceptable...
The UK government has failed to provide any evidence to support claims that the majority of those trying to reach the UK in small boats are so-called economic migrants

Our teams around the world have seen the harm caused to people seeking safety by needlessly cruel migration policies.
The UK is no exception.
We will not stand by and watch as people are pushed into life-threatening journeys to the UK. We need your help.
🛑Indiscriminate and relentless attacks must stop now. Forcible displacement must stop now.
🛑Assaults on hospitals and medical staff must stop now. Restrictions on aid and the siege must stop now.

The number of trucks allowed to deliver aid into Gaza through the Rafah crossing on 21 October is totally insufficient compared to the desperate needs of the people, who have been under complete siege and relentless bombing for two weeks. 1/4
This already dire situation for people seeking safety is likely to become worse as the Govt introduces the new Illegal Migration Bill.
That’s why we need your help to tell the Home Sec to put a stop to this cruel & harmful approach, and focus on providing safe routes to the UK

There’s absolutely NO evidence to suggest this will deter people from trying to seek refuge in the UK but plenty of medical evidence to show how dangerous a policy like this is.
When the Australian gov tried it we saw the worst mental health crisis in our 50+ years of work.
In all likelihood we are looking at the UK government spending around £100k to deport each asylum seeker to Rwanda on the plane tonight, possibly more.
UK govt argues that’s a necessary price to establish the deterrent.
Truly insulting to see
@pritipatel
state that fixing the broken asylum system, which this government has presided over for more than a decade, is a “moral imperative”.
Her plan to ship human beings overseas as if they’re cargo, lacks any form of basic morality.
This policy would have caused huge harm to people who arrive seeking safety on our shores, only to be informed that they will be removed from the country on a one-way ticket to Rwanda. 1/2

The following words are from MSF general director, Claire Magone...
We are deeply saddened to hear that at least 12 people lost their lives crossing the Channel today. The lack of safe routes to the UK forces people to make dangerous journeys, which costs lives. The Gov't needs to take immediate action & open pathways for people seeking safety.

MSF condemns the dangerous so-called 'Illegal Migration Bill' expected to be tabled by the UK Government tomorrow.
