@k_shelton @MyEdTechLife @jmattmiller If the TOS give pause, districts can ask edtechs to sign their DPA. If an edtech refuses, don't work with them. Encouraging everyone to assume the worst of freemium edtech is unproductive because a free offering is often the only way teachers can gain access to tools.

@k_shelton @MyEdTechLife @jmattmiller The only point I’m trying to make here is that “if it’s free, you’re the product” rarely applies to K12 Edtech. Implying freemium products are just out to harvest data makes it harder for us to serve schools. We’re here to serve educators and students, not steal data.

@k_shelton @jmattmiller DPAs and school approval processes cover much more than just PII. They lay out who owns what data, how it can be used, what happens in the event of a data breach, etc. If something gives a district pause, they just ask the edtech provider to sign their DPA.

Well this is timely. #TCEA, come check out @lesliefisher and I’s literacy session on Sunday, I’ll be demoing a CKLA aligned early literacy tool that can drive these sorts of learning outcomes for our students @TCEA
Interesting new study on the implementation of a knowledge rich curriculum. This study tested the impact of a widely used content-rich curriculum, CKLA Knowledge Strand, on kindergarteners’ vocabulary, listening comprehension, and content knowledge.
