might be a hot take but I truly do think Cynthia Erivo deserves the Oscar. between the live singing (where her vocal dynamics are an acting masterclass of their own), the heavy makeup, reinvention of a renowned character, etc…. No one else could do that.

Elphie’s death is ‘catastrophe’ part of the tragedy plot structure. Her learning would negate her ultimate lesson & the lesson of the story.

Her battle is her struggle with power. If you remove that, you remove half the story. There’s that would suggest Glinda “doesn’t want to be friends with her” following For Good.
