I thought I was crazy but in fact Godot 4 was much slower, less responsive than 3. As suggested below, setting Editor Settings -> Interface -> Editor -> Single Window Mode to ON solved it
Hm, seems like Godot 4 is super laggy and slow when compared to Godot 3. Any ideas what might cause this? I'm sure it's an issue on my end.

You won't find Unity outside of Unity🙄. If you're willing to try #GodotEngine, give GDScript a chance (or use C# it's totally fine)👍. Trust people that have been working with Godot for years and have released games with it. We say we like GDScript because it's actually good😄.
