As an adult, I find it hard to be in a beginner state. I constantly berate myself for not being a master from hour 0. As a child, I was a beginner at everything, and learned almost exclusively though play, and when playing, I did not think in terms of failure and success.

This months attempt at @typescript ! 1. Changes perfectly working .js file to .ts. 2. Immediately gets not-a-real-error 3. Googles around for 15 minutes trying to figure out solution. 4. Switched back to plain .js Yep, static types still work just like I remember them.

This is cool! However, remember, your app does not have this performance problem - your app has an unoptimised image or one extra http request or an extra reflow. Never optimise without profiling.

🚀 Perf tip: if your web app ships large JSON-like configuration as JavaScript object literals, consider using JSON.parse instead. It’s much faster, especially for cold loads!

I've been thinking about why I mysteriously find weakly typed languages to be easier to work with than C# which I used to do before them. I think one contributor might be that weakly typed languages are less forgiving of bad naming, and culturally drives stuff like this:

Better Boolean Variable Names 👏 Coming up with good variable names can be a challenge. For boolean values, you can follow this convention. Prefix it with `is`, `has`, or `can`. Just by reading the name, you'll know it's a boolean 👍 #100DaysOfCode #CodeNewbie #301DaysOfCode

Advice for conf speakers: When someone you care for is speaking, sit in the first row. Be there for them. Laugh at their jokes, _actually_ watch the talk (Twitter can wait), make yourself visible for them. Be the audience you'd like to have, and next time you will have it.
