New paper🚨📢 A simple way to help #pollinators in sub- & urban building complexes... We recommend that lawns are mown at an interval of at least 6, but ideally 12, weeks to increase floral resources & pollinator abundance Work complete with @Safeguard2021 @RHULBioSci @MoJGovUK
Study from @Safeguard2021 shows reduced lawn mowing frequencies of between 6-12 weeks increases pollinator abundance by 170%. Using UK MoJ prison sites to look at how lawns in urban and sub-urban building complexes can be managed for pollinator abundance

@StevenFalk1 @Safeguard2021 @RHULBioSci @MoJGovUK Definitely just one piece of the puzzle. The final recommendation includes combining this with rotational mowing to keep floral resources and short sward. The dream study would combine mowing frequencies, mosaic mowing, and presence of the nest/larval dev sites 🐝🦋

The data entry dream team (me and Mum) are back at work entering this year's citizen science data. Today's highlight was the joy a single flower counted brought (after 11 weeks of a very empty lawn) 🌼😊 #optimow #citizenscience #pollinators
