Deep Learning Indaba 2023 was a great success. Organized sessions and participated actively in several sessions. We shared several ideas on how to grow African talents in ML, how to develop products from Africa while being wary of predatory funders.

What can USD 1million do in Ghana's education..
1) It can train 20PhD students in Mathematics if we assume 48months at 1000USD/month per student.
2) It can train 80MPhil students in Mathematics if we assume 24months at 500USD/month per student.
Ghana has about 70 PhD holders in Mathematics. If this doesn't mean anything to leaders, then its a sad state! If you decide to train 10PhDs in 48months at 1000USD/month i.e. GHS3,757,417.92 in 4years.

No mathematical mind! No computational head! Nothing, nothing in their heads except per diem and huge monthly benefits. What a shame of a board! shame! just spending without thinking! Shame!
The Bank of Ghana has 10 independent Directors. It seems some people, esp in the Political Opposition, are not happy that they are paid ~$8,000 a month (~86,000 GHS). Given the calibre of people needed to helm a central bank board, what would folks be comfortable with? 🤔

There're too many requests that leaves lecturers also frustrated. Imagine only 30 students asking for 3 each. We spend more time writing recommendation letters than even teaching. There must be a remedy else it'll always be difficult.

Whichever committee designed the amounts payable at the port of Ghana were lousy. Why heap such unnecessary charges on citizens.
If you’re wondering why taxes, duties and levies at the port in Ghana are so high, we just took a real Customs Import Declaration Form for an imported 2023 Toyota Land Cruiser and did the computation by hand.
