These plaintiff stories show #Medicaid's critical role in community living for #seniors & ppl w/ #disabilities & the devastating impact of coverage loss - which could be more widespread w/o careful attention & enough resources/staffing when the #COVID19 pub health emergency ends.

New federal $ for #Medicaid for home & community-based services didn't make it into the budget reconciliation bill - but the need for additional investments to support #seniors & people w/ #disabilities living in the community remains - & will only increase as population ages.
Over the last 12 months, the Covid-19 pandemic’s lingering effects and once-in-a-generation inflation have turned dire predictions into sobering truths for private agencies that provide services for the intellectually and developmentally disabled.

6 states have waivers to extend the time to decide appeals when applicants/enrollees challenge #Medicaid coverage denials/terminations. CMS guidance envisions safeguards, but it will be important to ensure that people don't end up w/ coverage gaps/unpaid bills as a result.
