@redefineED Something also interesting, we were in Helsinki this past weekend, we noticed how much they used Swedish and Finnish all over.

@redefineED I love what they do in Hawaii, I remember in the Far North of New Zealand the Māori culture is so strong and people are claiming their culture and heritage and there are so many Māori language schools and cultural activities

@redefineED I think it’s so important to continue to share communicate and celebrate learners. Every language is so important and English is not a measure of intelligence or success. We need to give every student a voice to share and show their learning 💕

@redefineED Then when I was growing up In South Africa, and in school just post Apartheid, we were never allowed to speak our home languages which was sad, especially African languages. When we spoke or read in any accent that wasn’t English sounding you were perceived as unintelligent.

@redefineED We often find that parents also want their kids to focus on English that we find a bit sad, because it’s so important for kids to learn or celebrate their home languages, and being an international school we encourage diversity and open-mindedness💕

@redefineED Not only focusing on English or bringing all the light to English. Then also our new students are encouraged to bring a book in their home language or from their home countries. We are growing our international language book shelves in our Learning Commons, to encourage diversity

@redefineED Great topic, so my share 2 things here, our school is an international school what we found was that so many families list English as the 1st language, when it is not. What we find is that parents want their kids to only speak English. We promote Language of the moment
