This has always been true depending on the level of the player. Making a minimal profit is not winning, especially with the team in prime position for a Concacaf Cup run. MLS does not need to prove itself to USMNT blowhards.
Love the move for @CuchoHernandez and @ColumbusCrew. Their coaching and style of play improved a player to @LaLiga level. They both get paid, he gets ready for his next step and the World Cup while Columbus gives the world market another example that @MLS can be THAT place. Great business. #MLS

The replies to this make me weep for humanity. Team makes extremely normal transfer move with players contract running out. Fans complain about MLS rules gutting the team. This will literally always be true with a salary capped league!!!
🇷🇸🔵 BREAKING: Sporting KC are nearing a deal to sign Serbia int'l forward Dejan Joveljic from LA Galaxy, per sources. Deal will be around $4m fee. Cash, not GAM. Could be 1st deal done with new rule. Joveljic goes to SKC instead of Tigres.

Massively (+0.3/90) overperform underlying #s 2nd season and become MVP candidate. Does he have an MVP season his 3rd year or drop off?

Feels like this is a great signing if he’s not rusty. This might end up being one of those “he would have been great in MLS had he had a consistent run of minutes before coming” signings. For example, Vela was at least making appearances in the half season before joining LAFC.

Also very funny that people were complaining about MLS making a complicated rule (and to be fair I didn’t think it would work this way either) and it just turned out to be normal transfers

@WarPigsChief @evanknowsball @TaylorTwellman @MLS Free movement of players across the league is still a positive. This doesn’t prevent players from being imported so long as there isn’t a Liga MX level of money tied up in the internal transfer market.

@Denzell_Of_NSH @Winstons_estate I mean it literally does. Currently there is no cash-based system to break contracts in MLS and move the player. This is literally that. Before this teams were forced to radically distort their cap to acquire these players. There was also zero movement of top players.
