@g_abe0 Nobody talks about how when the red army first occupied Ukraine it went on a massive spree defacing and destroying basically anything that remotely promoted Ukrainian culture or national identity. Almost zero difference between them and the Russian army right now

What’s often not talked about is how collectivization (a prominent process in the USSR’s “path to socialism”) was used as a form of colonial dominance through resource extraction and also restricting the rights of indigenous peoples and favoring Russian/ukrainian settlers

The hamsic in its modern context should be viewed in many contexts as a colonial symbol. Because in the social imaginaries of many formerly Sovietized peoples, this is what the hamsic is to them.
