Started off the morning with @adrianmendozaed in the Math Vocabulary, Gestures, and Motion training at the #R4math Conference! It is so important to provide a low stress environment for ALL students to develop academic language. #Math4ELs #PISDMathChat

@noraelia1919 @SelContreras811 I feel the same for my kinder students. I think it will really give them the opportunity to reflect on their learning.

@SelContreras811 A14: I have always implemented Math Journals, but the Stuggle Doodle is something I will implement to give them a chance to reflect. Knowing the type of stuggle they are having is critical to know how to structure lessons more effectively. #PISDMathChat #P3ProductiveStruggle

@MrsFriendTweets @SelContreras811 I think this is a key point. Our instuction and guidance won't provide ALL of our students what they need to be successful. So much of it is allowing them to stuggle in a productive manner. #PISDMathChat #P3ProductiveStruggle

@Michael44477076 @SelContreras811 I agree. Sometimes just providing numbers that are less intimidating allows students to work through the problem without worrying about the numbers in the problem focusing more on the process and not the product. #PISDMathChat #P3PriductiveStruggle

@SelContreras811 A12: The struggle move that resonated was "catch and release." In my kinder class I noticed that it is effective when I make observations of thier challenges and provide them opportunities to Think-pair-share to effectivly debrief. #PISDMathChat #P3ProductiveStruggle

@noraelia1919 @SelContreras811 Having the lesson planner organizer is benifical so you can pace yourself and make sure you are providing opportunities for productive struggle.

@noraelia1919 @SelContreras811 Planning for possible problems students might have is critical so you can be prepared to clear up the misconceptions.

@SelContreras811 A11: Direct instruction & gradual release can undermine opportunities for productive struggle by contolling all aspects of teaching which in turn eliminates the student's ability to internalize their understanding. #PISDMathChat #P3ProductiveStruggle

@MrsSepulveda2 @SelContreras811 I think setting a time frame for reviewing them is great. This will ensure that you will review them, adding it to your checklist. #PISDMathChat #P3ProductiveStuggle

@mindytrinidad @SelContreras811 I agree as the school year goes on it is easy to forget to reinforce the norms. I feel that it is super important especially when you get new students.

@SelContreras811 A8: I think it is important to create the norms together so the students feel ownership of the expectations. Also, it is critical to reinforce the norms throughout the year and offer reminders. #PISDMathChat #P3ProductiveStruggle

@mindytrinidad @SelContreras811 It surprises me how sometimes students do mot realize how much math they see in their daily lives. It is so great that you give them an opportunity to reflect on that.
