Nobody is charging Jews with anything. People are charging the Israeli state and its Western funders with an ongoing genocide that is being funded with our tax dollars. False statements like this erase the courageous resistance of Jewish people standing up against genocide.
I was detained under the Muslim ban and can tell you that the Muslim ban was NOT reversed under Biden. There are thousands of Yemenis Sudanis Somalis etc whose ISSUED (then canceled) visas + DV greencards were never reconsidered by Biden despite many spending life savings…(1/2)

It’s actually 5.9 million displaced since April in addition to 1.2 million displaced before this war which is a total of 7.1 million overall. The death toll is also likely much higher, but there is no body/way to accurately gather this data.

who experienced this during the first weeks of the war: 4 hours during which war machines and soldiers got refueled under the guise of fake ceasefires that served to normalize and legitimize the continuation of state violence.
People assume that our family members have left Sudan. It’s basically impossible to leave if you’re not upper or middle class. Ppl haven’t earned $ since April 15th, the vast majority don’t have passports (1/2)

UofT is threatening to fire staff and faculty should they participate in standing alongside and trying to protect our students from police violence. You do realize that you hired many of us partly because we study state violence and resistance against it.
A deportation is one of the most violent acts there is, and so we should view people defending someone from this violence as a form of protection/self-defense.
So many academics write about class, call themselves Marxist or leftists but don’t know how to behave around people. Like they regularly disrespect or misunderstand working class people, while getting all the accolades for their Marxist publications.

Sudanese are being denied the right to seek asylum at multiple borders and I have yet to see official statements by the US, EU or other countries condemn this violation of intl. law.
#sudan_update
As the war in Sudan enters its 6th month, the official death toll is over 9000, (1200 children have died of measles + malnutrition), only 26% of the $3 billion aid needed has been pledged, 1/2 million Darfurian survivors of genocidal violence are stuck in Chad (1/2)
Universities want to hire faculty of color. but not our politics. They want to hire us, but not consider the ways we have commitments and responsibilities beyond ourselves and then they wonder why they can’t retain us.

i hope y'all understand that the funds raised for evacuations are used for that and only that - egypt is asking gazans to PAY for their freedom. 5k a head at minimum. so those who are able to leave leave with nothing and are effectively stateless (and can't work in egypt either.)
I am heart-broken about this. That a country once touted the breadbasket of the region is facing a massive food security crisis has everything to do with this war AND with the last 20 years of restructuring the rural economy through neoliberal reforms + large-scale agribusiness.

have been forced to flee their homes (according to the UN), the highest number of displaced people in the world at the moment.
April marks 6 months of the Israeli genocide in Palestine, 1 year of the war in Sudan. Over 32,000 killed in Gaza estimates are over 50k killed in Sudan*. Liberation in Palestine + Sudan will require the entire complicit multi-lateral system from the UN to the AU be abolished.

This is the US announcing its bid to invest in Sudanese land, in ways the Gulf has for decades. First step is to announce that most of the land is empty, not used etc...second is to use hunger and breadbasket analogies as a discursive strategy to justify appropriating it.
FACT:
#Sudan
has 210 million acres of arable land. But, only 25% of it is being used. While we're on track to help this nation double its wheat production, together we can do SO much more. With private sector support, Sudan could feed not just itself, but the whole world!
For Sudan, the Canadian government shut down the website during the first few months of the war and nobody could even apply. They claim the system was overwhelmed by too many requests.
Really fucking wild to go on the Canadian immigration and refugee website to see that they have an expedited entry form for Ukrainian refugees... and no one else.

Hello guys, you know that the famine in Sudan is striking really hard with horrific figures/statistics coming out everyday (2.5m ppl are expected to die by September) and the death toll reaching 10k per day So here are some ways you can help relieving the famine.

I am the only Palestinian American serving in Congress, and my perspective is needed here now more than ever. I will not be silenced and I will not let anyone distort my words.
I’m from Detroit, where I learned to speak truth to power, even if my voice shakes.
People are starving to death in Sudan and I appreciate that there is more intl coverage on the famine specifically but let it not be decontextualised and dehistoricized otherwise we are contributing to the consumption of images that have long served to naturalize famine
Hunger is often more deadly than bullets. My biggest fear is bcming a reality. A new market opened in Krt where people can buy food aid at inflated prices. If aid doesn't reach people now FOR FREE, if people can't even find decent affordable food to purchase....

I'm over the academics, who support a free Palestine in private + in principle, but refuse to do so publicly. There is no such thing as solidarity in private, no support in the hushed silence of a private thumbs up. There is power in that silence and it is harmful.

To CLARIFY: What is happening in Sudan is NOT an "internal civil war" nor is it a proxy war per se but a multi-scalar counterrevolutionary war meant to protect the interests of Sudanese elites + their intl. partners, of which one of the most harmful is the UAE (1/2)
@Questing200
@thisisNOTghaida
To clarify our position on Sudan, we don’t support Sudan per se because it’s an internal civil war over there - Sudan needs to get its act together, HOWEVER we fully support the innocent people who are dying as a result of two Sudanese groups who are both killing each other and
Just a note to say that in my circles, the whataboutist folks are not the one's showing up for Sudan (or the Congo), the one's showing up, donating, amplifying, organizing alongside Sudanese people are folks who are doing the same for Palestine.
My timeline is filling with pleas from women preparing themselves for rape, an orphanage and shelter for blind ppl needing to be evacuated for the 2nd time. The horror of this war just keeps getting more terrifying.

The UN declares that there are 10.7 million Sudanese displaced by war and there are NO special visa programs created at least not in Europe or N. America where we’ve seen the most robust programs established for the 6.3 mill war-displaced Ukrainians.

I find it strange that non-Palestinians feel comfortable telling Palestinians what freedom and justice should look like for them. It is not our place to define freedom and justice for anyone but ourselves.
If the UAE turns off its funding faucet to the RSF, we will likely get closer to seeing an end to this brutal fighting and continued cycle of militarized violence.

It feels surreal how little people know and care to know about what is happening in Sudan to the point where ppl assume the war is over bcs there is so little coverage. And this too is linked to why no country has issued special visas for Sudanese refugees.

The war in Sudan is a counterrevolutionary war that is supported by external actors but not led by then. Sudanese state/military and business elites have long controlled large portions of Sudan’s economy (1/2)
I cannot wrap my head around this statement by Clingendael Institute that "In the most likely scenario, a half million will die" in Sudan warning that "Sudan's trajectory toward catastrophe is certain." NOT ON OUR WATCH!!! These are our loved ones...💔

We should all want our universities to disclose and divest from militarized state violence. Disclosure and divestment is in fact a right for anyone paying tuition, into a pension fund or laboring in other ways for the university.
Nowhere on this planet can we allow others to normalise war, militarised state violence and the indiscriminate killing of civilians. The political economy of war is what makes us all complicit or in resistance whether in Sudan, Congo or Palestine.
💯and the fact that this phase of the Israeli genocide in Gaza has coincided w/ the brutal war in Sudan + the ongoing plunder/attack on DRC means our hearts r stretching, expanding our capacity to hold multitudes as similar global forces destroy the lives of our loved ones.
with little to no aid/support and yet Sudan has fallen out of the headlines and there are $2 billion aid packages being crafted in US congress to fund a genocidal attack on Gaza.
They are the only country to actually undertake a civilian (free) evacuation for everyone regardless of nationality Shame on all the other countries that could have and decided not to, especially the Egyptians for giving ppl a hard time at the border…
We fasted part of Ramadan in

What is happening in western Sudan (Darfur in particular) is an AGAIN of a never again genocidal violence that entire US orgs were formed around. Are they silent bcs it doesn’t comfortably fit into their frameworks of analysis anymore? Where are the Clooneys, the Prendergasts?
Everyone assuming that as an African I have no idea what is happening in Palestine for the last 75 years don’t know anything abt the long histories of solidarity btw Falasteen and various African countries. We’ve bn at this since b4 many of you were born.
I've been taking my 4 year old to Sudan + Palestine protests and she is making connections, the chants, esp. the one's arnd food + children resonate with her. If she can, the rest of the world can too. Who profits, who harms, who gets dispossessed and suffers? It's all connected.
Exhibit A of the whataboutist politics of racist colleagues. What have you done exactly abt what is happening in El Fasher? Not once have you reached out to show your support for Sudanese colleagues or students this year. Keep Sudan out of your mouth!
I was also asked "how can you care more about convocation than death". I responded, I care a lot - what do you think about the madness in El Fasher? No one had any idea what that was. Honestly, it's mostly a young, not-very-informed group, who flit from protest to protest. 16/x
The disgusting irony of this…that a Sudanese refugee could get deported to Kagame’s Rwanda by his former colonizer, while European refugees are welcomed through expedited visa programs.
A Sudanese man went to the home office for a routine sign-in. He was held and is expected to be deportated, believed to be first under the new Rwanda Scheme.
Several students Palestinian (and Muslim) have told me they don’t feel safe going to their classes or even coming to campus, for fear of witnessing ppl deny and legitimise a genocide agst their ppl. Shame on us as a community for creating this kind of dehumanising environment.
Here is a🧵 for those considering evacuating from Port Sudan. It’s a long journey but possibly the most affordable and best option for our ppl with visa restrictions i.e. men under 50 and non-Sudani African and Arab citizens. I am really tired so pls forgive typos. (1/10+) 🧵

This!!! The numbers are severely underreported and so many people have died due to lack of healthcare, medicines, adequate food etc…that are unaccounted for. I don’t think I know any Sudanese who have not lost a loved one.
I keep thinking about how underreported the fatalities in Sudan are. Civilian deaths are reported to be 14K per OCHA and we know that the Darfur massacres resulted in 10k losses. I think I’m missing something but the numbers aren’t making sense to me. Does anyone know more?
The war in
