I keep thinking about how underreported the fatalities in Sudan are. Civilian deaths are reported to be 14K per OCHA and we know that the Darfur massacres resulted in 10k losses. I think I’m missing something but the numbers aren’t making sense to me. Does anyone know more?

The war in

is purposefully framed to appear like it has nothing to do with the average N. American, but wars are a billion $ business, your pension funds, tax dollars, mutual fund investments, that uncle working in PR or mining, all of it implicates so many of us directly.

Much respect to this sister for the bravery that she demonstrated. And much respect to the brothers and sisters in Kenya for the stand which they have taken. Their protests are a true display of people's power in Africa.

Can we stop using the word civil war or conflict to describe what is happening in Sudan? This is a power struggle, a hijacking of the country but not a civil war.
