My first sole-authored publication is out in @SREJournal ✨ Drawing on an ethnography of Abundance Junior High School*, I argue that school discipline in the rural northeast Louisiana Delta is shaped by racial, spatial, and social dimensions of place.

This is not to say that other governments, leaders, citizenry are perfect. They certainly are not. There is still too little regard for human rights, health, freedom, and wellbeing most everywhere. But the United States is incredibly bad, esp given the vast resources we have.

Emphasis on looting in LA is usual playbook of stoking racist fears to distract from failures of the state & uselessness of police in crisis. Every news segment talks looting yet there have been <10 arrests. In a county of nearly TEN MILLION w police & military on every block.

And I hope educators are met with that same care, grace, honesty, & respect for their ideas + actions on how to care for their community. Schools are institutions and institutions too often demand compliance and productivity, with little concern for both their wellbeing + kids.
