The number of people affected by 9/11 is incomprehensible. Claudia is 17. She never met her father. He died at the World Trade Center, just a few weeks after learning he was going to be father

The first time I’ve smiled all day: listening to my neighbors cheer and applaud for essential workers. Now let’s get them the protective gear they need!
@NY1
Tonight, the cheers started at around 7:01, but they got louder with each minute, and at one point almost drowned out the sound of sirens. We owe so much to our health care workers and all the essential workers who are keeping the city running
Cheering, honking, and clapping. One guy even brought a pot and spoon into the street to make some noise. It has been a while since I’ve seen the city this happy.
@NY1
Wow, I’ve never seen turnout quite like this! It’s 9:46 and the line to get in to my polling station in Chelsea stretches out the door and down the block
@NY1
This is a common sight at firehouses across the city: walls of remembrance paying respect to fallen firefighters, both those lost on 9/11 and those that have since died from breathing the toxic dust. The price they and all other first responders have paid is unimaginable
These “no parking” signs were posted all along 218th Street in Inwood this weekend, forcing residents to move their cars. Why? So police officers could park their own cars on the street for a flag football game.

It’s Showtime! The

Love this photo of Jackie Robinson. He would have turned 100 tomorrow. The

is celebrating his life with a photography exhibit that shows him on and off the field

Just got a press release from Pornhub. They’re donating 50,000 surgical masks to area medics and offering free porn for the next 30 days. These are strange times
"Without cars, Manhattan’s streets could give priority to more equitable and accessible ways of getting around, including an extensive system of bike “superhighways” and bus rapid transit."

Some people have a hard time walking and chewing gum at the same time. Not Jack Hirschowitz. He’s a joggler - a person who jogs while juggling. He’s so good, he’s run some 16 marathons while juggling

Spending time with some pharmacists yesterday made me realize just how vital they are to their communities right now - offering advice and comfort to people who are anxious about what’s to come in the coming weeks
This is just heartbreaking news. Whenever I had to work the morning shift and ran into Katherine, I knew it was going to be a good day. She was so warm and always smiling, even at 3:00 a.m.
A spokeswoman for
@NYCMayor
tells me she’s “declining comment for the time being” on our story about the NYPD’s move this weekend to put up “no parking” signs so its members could park for a flag football game. Just two weeks ago, de Blasio vowed to fight placard abuse
First day back from vacation and where does

send me? The old Fresh Kills landfill, where I’m learning how the Sanitation Department is turning yard and food waste into something good for your garden
Less than 24 hours after we did this story, NYCHA fixed this woman's kitchen. While I'm happy we were able to help, it shouldn't take a news report for NYCHA to do its job
I didn’t think it was possible for me to be more impressed with my friend and colleague

Ruschell was the brightest of bright lights who made all of us better and happier. Thinking of her family and my NY1 family today. I’ll miss you, Ruschell ❤️
We have some deeply sad and personal news to report.
Ruschell Boone, an Emmy award-winning journalist and our beloved colleague here at NY1, passed away Sunday due to complications related to pancreatic cancer. She was 48.
"My advice to New Yorkers is do not buy a car," says de Blasio on Thursday. Cars, he said, represent "the past." (Critics say de Blasio has done far too little to ameliorate rising traffic congestion, as New Yorkers avoid mass transit. No HOV lanes on bridges, etc.)
For the last few weeks the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership has been holding swing dancing events in MetroTech commons. 88-year-old Bob Holzman came one night all the way from the Bronx. He says when he’s not dancing he’s thinking about dancing

The MTA is running some nostalgia trains today. This one is an R9. It was built in 1940. For reference, the R32s, which still run on the c line every day, were introduced in 1964.
Talking Girl Scout cookies today, so why not dress up as one? I’m a Thin Mint (which obviously means I’m the most popular). Which cookie do you most identify with?

What a way to start my Friday. I’m sitting poolside watching the Harlem Honeys and Bears, a synchronized swimming team for seniors. They put my relatively young self to shame!

Taking a look this morning at Seneca Village, a 19th century community of middle class African American landowners that lived in what is now Central Park. Until recently, their story had been erased from history

Returned home after an extended absence from the city, and I’m happy to report my neighborhood is still very much alive, and people still live in my building. No moving trucks here
Waiting for Starbucks to open. Not just any Starbucks - but a 3-story roasting plant on 9th Avenue. Remember the days when coffee cost $1 and you got it from a cart on the street?

Hey there low-talkers, close-talkers, double-dippers and re-gifters. “Seinfeld” debuted 30 years ago (!) this week. What’s your favorite episode? My dance moves are still inspired by Elaine

Paging all tourists: please refresh yourself in the basics of walking before visiting the city. 1. Don’t stop to text or to chat immediately after getting off an escalator. That can cause a pileup. 2. Don’t stand to the left when riding an escalator. That causes delays. Thank you
A farm grows in Manhattan. This 1/4-acre rooftop farm - or garden, depending on your perspective - just opened at Essex Crossing on the Lower East Side. It’s already growing produce that will be sold to neighborhood residents

This girl is amazing. She’s 17 years old. She uses a wheelchair. And she’s a global tennis champ. Oh, and did I mention she also skis, plays basketball and competes in wheelchair races?

Cool job alert! The people who take care of the city’s historic homes also get to live in them. Joel Holberg has lived at the Lewis Latimer House for 12 years and is now raising is daughter there

There’s really no better place to get local political news, and I’m not just saying that because I work there. I was planning to watch some back episodes of Insecure but now I’m hooked

At police briefing on Pride month security, Commissioner O’Neill apologizes for the police raid that led to the riots at Stonewall 50 years ago. “What happened shouldn’t have happened,” he says

Someone just handed me a rose. That’s how excited NYC is today. Also, I think this is first time I’ve seen pedestrians encourage drivers to honk their horns.
Standing outside the Park Slope Food Coop and being told by a shopper that I’m not allowed to shoot video on the sidewalk. Don’t even know where to begin...
What a great NYC scene! Three Lives & Company bookshop was forced to vacate its store for a few weeks due to building construction. So rather than close they just moved the books onto the sidewalk. They hope to be back inside in another 10 days
"Right over by Rockaway Boulevard is the Modell's, which you might remember was a movie theater in the 'King of Queens.' That is a Modell's and now it's not a Modell's anymore. Now it's nothing. Just throwing that out there for you Queens people." Classic

Will a survey help improve subway and bus service? Corey Johnson hopes so. The city council speaker and acting public advocate kicked off the 5-day, 5-borough conversation with riders today

The new memorial honoring those who have become sick with or have died from 9/11-related illnesses is taking shape at the World Trade Center site. Here’s one of the six 17-ton monoliths that was trucked in from Vermont late yesterday

One of the highlights of my career was interviewing David Dinkins, Basil Paterson and Charles Rangel just a few days after the death of Percy Sutton. I don’t even know if I can call it an interview because I just sat back and let them tell stories about their incredible lives
I can’t say I love Halloween, but I do love that they close off 22nd Street to traffic every year so kids can trick or treat at some really well decorated homes. It turns the neighborhood into one big block party. Now I feel guilty I forgot to buy candy!
