this thread — Black and Latino students should not feel obligated to relive their traumatic experiences to gain access to higher ed. Took me a long time to realize that my academic accomplishments, scientific curiosities were valid in and of themselves.
so race–as a category–cannot be used in college admission decisions, but writing about how one's race influenced their life experience CAN be.
