@AshleyBlaker’s Hyperfixation on Radio 4 tonight was the most Radio 4 thing ever - a long comedy riff based on Keith Thomas’s “Religion and the Decline of Magic”. One which @michpfeffer might enjoy, as she organised the party to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its publication.

To mark the start of #conclave, I wrote for @ConversationUK about the astrologers who once made a living predicting the death of popes (with lots of citations of @ProfM_Azzolini) https://t.co/D54UEr2jF2

Those who predicted the death of the pope in the 16th century often put their own lives at risk.

So nice! After years I returned to some notes I took a long time ago and I am offering a paper on the topic on Friday at a workshop at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. There may be a volume coming out of the meeting. Riveting material!

🚨 Tomorrow! 🚨 Join us at the Weston Library to celebrate the final few weeks of our exhibition on all things Divination. Unlike our exhibition curator, we aren't trained in the art of spider divination... But we know you're going to love it. https://t.co/wZdf4lUc4U

I dropped into @bodleianlibs Oracles, Omens and Answers exhibition today, which display some fascinating examples from their collections. This Latin treatise on geomancy (using the natural world to make predictions) was commissioned by Richard II in 1391. This lavish manuscript
