He hasn’t shown that he can even touch his old ability as a starter. He’s at best a relief pitcher now and that wouldn’t be a bad thing for him

Mets got such a good deal even at short term. Let’s say Pete doesn’t do well, it’s not a bad contract. If he does well it’s great value, and he probably signs a new deal because he will be 32 by the end of it and teams won’t invest in him at that point. Boras lost

He was so bad in the last 2 months of the season and the playoffs. He’ll find a team but he ain’t gonna be in a starting lineup

@UncleStevieMets I think it will get done. Boras thinks he’s the same guy from 20 years ago. Even he has to admit defeat at some point

@UncleStevieMets Which I agree with, but reports are saying that the numbers aren’t that far off based on what Boras asked the Blue Jays before the Santander deal. So at this point it’s just haggling over not a lot of money. Pete rejected the 7 year offer in 2023, that’s his mistake

@gobirdzz Not saying it’s right but the market is not being kind to Pete and the Mets are reacting to it. Mets did offer him 7 years/158 million in 2023 and he rejected it. So tbf it wasn’t about not committing.
