This 1,700-year-old school with its walls covered in Greek text referring to a passage from Homer’s ‘The Odyssey’, is located in the ancient town of Trimithis, now called Amheida, in Egypt’s western desert. It's one of the only two ancient schools uncovered in the hole of Egypt.

On the small island of Gramvousa, you can find a small church that is dedicated to the “Holy Mary of the Thieves” (Panagía Kleftrína). It took that name since Cretan pirates would regularly visit this church to beg the Holy Mary not to punish them for their raids. 🪬🧿🏴‍☠️

Built in 1730 when Nafplio was under Ottoman rule, the mosque of Aga Pasha consisted of a large hall covered with a huge dome. From 1825 up until 1826 this building housed the first Greek Parliament. That's why locals nowdays call the mosque “Vouleftiko” which means Parliament.

Byzantium's Heritage: The church of Panagia Chalkeon in Thessaloniki was built in 1028 by the protospatharios (court official) Christopher of Longobardia. The church's name translates as “the Virgin of the Coppersmiths,” owing to its closeness to a coppersmith neighborhood. ⛵

The oldest olive tree in the world can be found on the island of Crete, and more specifically, in the village of Ano Vouves. As the tree is almost (according to the University of Crete) 4,000 years old, it has been there since the Minoan period! 🏝️
