It's a cover of Grass Land from Kirby's Dream Land 3 that feels like pants!
Featuring live melodica, ukulele and Andes 25F... this should feel straight out of Kirby's Epic Yarn.
I wrote a demo track for

titled Ripple Resort! It's a love letter to the Kirby soundtracks we all know and love.
You too can transform your Super Famicom into a MIDI synth... soon. Pre-orders run until 10/15/21!
New Kirby-style song!
"Inconspicuous island is, well... inconspicious. Never mind the vast amount of pirate ships marooned there, never mind the Waddle Doo pirates, never mind the pirate outposts. It's a completely normal island! There's no treasure or anything like that here!"
You know, people keep saying descending chord progressions this, descending chord progressions that
I think I've had enough. It's time for chromatically ascending chord progressions.
I'm honored to be part of Scarlet Moon's (

) latest album, Canvas City! 🌆🎶
My track - GS-SMP Go Go! - was written with SC-88 PRO specs in mind. 🎹

New Kirby style music, new instrumental experiments. 🎤
"Risky Rocks finds itself home to Planet Popstar's oldest and most ancient residents - dinosaurs roam the canyons, both alive and dead. Looming over them all is the local volcano, which has been acting up lately..."

Hello! I'm mellorine.
I'm a musician and composer, and I'm ready to seek other projects to lend my voice to again.
Here's a sample of my work!

The first Gimmick! 2 review is here!
"It takes the core elements that made the first game special and builds on them with refined graphics, improved level design, and a charming presentation that outshines the original in every way." -

my piano professor: "your homework is to bring in a lead sheet for a song you want to play on piano"
me: "what are you looking for from this? should i bring in a jazz standard? how technical should it be?"
professor: "anything you want to play"
me: ok

Water instead of bottomless pits would have been preferable for so much of Super Mario Odyssey's kingdoms... it's a little surprising that Sunshine got it right fifteen whole years before it.
I tried recreating this snippet from Super Mario 3D World with sample libraries, all by ear! I wonder how close I got? 🎷🎺🎻 (original footage by

Custom ringtone! It's like drawing your own phone wallpaper, except you get to hear it less often.
there's lyrics to it i'm not posting for at least another year
@MarioBrothBlog
Between things like this and the scrapped title sequence, I feel like they wanted Odyssey to be a game more centered around narrative, atmosphere and worldbuilding before they reigned it in to make way for the focused explorative platformer approach...
According to the Art of Super Mario Odyssey book, the original concept for the game's title sequence intended for it to convey a feeling of despair after Mario loses Peach in the intro, as the camera slowly zooms out to reveal him being completely alone before the logo appears.

I'd love to see threads like this more often! It's great seeing all these great musicians and projects in one space.
I got to demo Super MIDI Pak recently! It's a unit that lets users use the SPC700 chip in their SNES/SFC systems as a MIDI-based sampler.

I've been alive, just so you know! I'm just way too used to being inactive on Twitter after being away for so long. I'd love to engage with everyone more in time, though.
In the meantime: I'm in the middle of doing something for 32-bit Jam! Stay tuned 🎵
Thank you for accepting this on such a last-minute schedule again. I'm glad I managed to do something for the event in some way...
Also, here's the friends that made it all possible. I'm really excited to do more with them!
Welcome back, autumn... welcome back, mellorine.
I'm happy to announce I'm back - and contributed music and audio to
@jontopielski
's Feather Park! I've learned a lot from the experience.
And hey: soundtrack coming soon! 🎵
@rixor14
He also drew Poppy Bros. Jr here too - proving he can draw cute after all!
But yeah, Kumazaki's non-HAL stuff is out there. I'd love to have been there to see him present that stuff as his portfolio to HAL...
There's so much more possible with the SNES's sound chip than you might give it credit for with the power of custom samples.
All this and more possible through Super MIDI Pak as always:
I don't like talking about personal stuff here, but to get to the point: I think I'm not in good enough state of mind to stay musically active right now.
I'm going to go on hiatus for the time being... I hope everyone's doing okay, and that I'll have new things to show soon.
I really hope that they find this tweet and discover just how much wonderful art they've inspired with this one act.
I'd be happy to have such a legacy.
I sure can't wait for Nintendo Switch Online to add Game Boy games to its library tomorrow so I can start gathering footage for that one VGM video I know I'm making sooner or later!
...is this really what I'm excited most about the direct? geez.
My musician confession is that even after three years of college studying jazz and 20th century classical music... the impostor syndrome is still very real. I admire the people who're just out there, doing it, making music however it works for them, and loving the process.
At this point I honestly don't even know what to confess anymore; y'all already know I barely know music theory, can't read sheet music, and mostly play in C major with a transpose button 😂
i accidentally repost a pokémon girl on my public timeline and it gets just as much traffic as typical tweets from me do
.......i have no idea what this means
Two hours with a microphone, a piano, the Andes and some percussion apparently gets you... this.
I've always wanted to do a cover of Grass Land 1 - I'll probably revisit it (again) at some point, but for now, I'm actually happy with how it turned out, given the circumstances.
I'll be honest: sometimes it takes a lot of work to convince myself that I can create art, or that people really enjoy it when I release it, or want it on their projects.
But I'd like to think the will and drive to create will always eventually prevail, for both you and me.
I'm honestly still not used to games being larger than 10GB... I'm too accustomed to indie titles and older games.
Sonic Generations is probably the largest game I have on Steam, and... personally, it's about as fun as Sonic Mania at a fraction of that filesize.
An underlooked aspect of Nintendo (and perhaps J devs in general) is the way they're able to ridiculously compress and optimize games.
Mario Odyssey is 5.7 GB. The recently released Code Vein is only 35GB. Western developers have no goddamn excuse to trim their filesizes
I'm announcing a return to regular music uploads! I'm planning on uploading a minimum of one cover every month for now - my goal is to launch a Patreon for these once I know I can commit to a schedule.

Wait, isn't that Pro Tools?
Are you trying to tell me a high schooler/idol/producer is actually working in Pro Tools of all things, when the people at my music college are just starting to learn it?
Oh hey, now that I'm listening to this, it has the melody to Fantasy Meadows from Air Ride! I wonder if it means we can make some guesses to who this was by (I feel like Fantasy Meadows was a Sakai track)?
the game sound team used midi instruments, remixed music from the games, and their music is usually used later in the series when they needed specific music cues that miyagawa's score didn't cover
One of my last assignments for music school: arrange a Skrillex song and perform it live
You know, college has had its ups and and downs, but it's been alright.
the modern online world seems to lack tact.
too easily, we take action on impulses and first glances on the slightest piece of reaction-provoking material (sometimes even when it's fake) without thinking about the large-scale impact of not just our actions, but everyone's...
Just August last year, I had zero certainty that I'd be here to see the end of this decade... but here I am.
This year has had its ups and downs, but overall, it's the best one I've ever had that I couldn't have ever asked for.
This coming

, I'm looking to give back to all the musicians I'd love to support! If you're a friend/mutual with some albums out, or if you know some good music worth supporting, I'd love to see it.
Oh, my recent game jam OSTs are there too!
