Incredible scenes in the beach volleyball gold medal match. Canada & Brazil started arguing, up at the net yelling at each other. The ref finally sent them away, Canada got a yellow card, they’re all fuming. DJ put on Imagine by John Lennon & they all start laughing 💀

Put time, effort and money into ensuring selectors, coaches and administrators come from diverse backgrounds to reduce conscious and unconscious bias & players being driven out of the sport through racism & other forms of discrimination
Fund research into injury prevention - athletes missing pinnacle events or having their career cut short due to injury is one of the most unfair things in sport
Very keen to see all the celebrations from netball's new legions of white male fans who were very concerned about the Diamonds 'costing netball $15m' by bringing politics into sport. They must be so excited about this news & planning their trips to the GF in Melbourne right now!
Is there not a world in which one can be supportive of the transgender community and curious about the fairness of Trans athletes in sport yet not be labeled a transphobe or a bigot as we ask questions? Do we yet know the answers? And do we even want to know the answers?
The more old men’s team players come out of the woodwork to have a go at Pat Cummins, the more I like him. If you’re pissing off that many guys who uphold traditional masculinity & love “mental disintegration” you must be doing something right
I hate public proposals at the best of times but this sub-genre of “men who propose to their elite sporting partner while she’s doing something very important” is my least favourite. I don’t find it cute, I find it territorial and gross.
Who likes good news? I had a PET scan yesterday & found out the cancer hasn’t spread anywhere else in my body. Tough times ahead still, but I’m feeling relieved & grateful to know exactly what I’m up against. Thanks for all the continuing support xx
Honestly, we can’t win. If you’re “hot” you get this Tom Morris kind of objectification & grossness. If you’re not “hot” they don’t even let you through the door. Either way it sucks
Get around your favorite women sports journos today. Cos the way one of our own was talked about today is what we all fear we are reduced to when we leave the room.
I'm feeling a bit nervous sharing this, as it's definitely the most personal story I have ever written. For
@GuardianAus
today, this is my love letter to the women's sport community, who have overwhelmed me with love throughout my cancer treatment
First time keeping today. That unimpressed expression is because the gloves made her hands sweaty. We may need some tips from
@ahealy77
before she has her next go!
My hair has been falling out in huge clumps all week, so I’ve gone for a pre-Xmas shave. Looking forward to enjoying the holidays without constantly being covered in my own hair
The best demonstration of the fact that women’s sport is a one team mentality is the Tillies getting it done in regular time so the Diamonds fans can get to bed 🥹
#Matildas
Imagine if instead they turned the spotlight to covering the actual world’s best domestic women’s cricket competition that’s on right now rather than spouting this sexist, heteronormative drivel 🤔
Personally I'd be putting the quotation marks around 'their' instead. When you spend over a 100 years being served pie without anyone else getting a piece, maybe it's time to ask if it was actually yours to take in full this whole time or if you owe a fair bit of pie backpay?
❓ Should male players will be willing to give up some of their 'pie' when it comes time to professionalise the women's game?
AFLW premiership coach Craig Starcevich joins Sharni and Sam this week to dissect that very issue!

Grant me the confidence of my 8yo daughter who marched up to the Year 6 boys on the other team fielding at silly point & short leg in her school cricket game to tell them they weren’t allowed to field within 5m. When they said they were 5m away, she demanded the umpire measure it
Sometimes when I meet new people I forget that I look sick & I wonder why they’re looking at me like that. Luckily this guy only looks at me like this because he really wishes I wouldn’t pick him up
Bless this Kiwi woman commentating the men’s hockey telling us about how many dads are in the Kookaburras and how many kids they have. What a refreshing change

Answering return to the office surveys like...
What’s your preferred work arrangement post-pandemic?
⚪️ Full time in the office
⚪️ 50/50 home/office split
🔘One day a week in the office, specifically for the purposes of non-work related printing
I wonder if I sat in the commentary box & just said “batter” every time a commentator said “batsman” for the whole summer, they’d all get so annoyed with me that they’d actually use the word that the MCC has put into the laws of cricket just to shut me up
#BBL11
Lotta talk about bowlers wearing headbands but personally I won’t be satisfied until I see this trend of bowling in glittery cat ears headbands taking off
#AUSvIND
I’m not saying my daughter is
@WBBL
obsessed, but today she called me over to look at an orange and red flower and said “Isn’t this such a beautiful Scorchers and Renegade coloured flower?”
#WBBL06
Hmm, I wonder if any of Emma McKeon’s competitors - particularly those from less wealthy nations - would look at the immense privilege & advantages she has enjoyed as a swimmer since childhood and think “It is just not fair”
One year ago today I sat in the backyard waiting for a phone call from my GP because there’s terrible phone reception inside our flat. When she called I officially got my breast cancer diagnosis, so that makes today my first cancerversary
Today in Pia’s cricket game she missed a ball while fielding because she was looking down at the ground. We asked her later what she’d been looking at & she said “Oh the marker I had to stand on said ‘third man’ on it. So I was flipping it over because not just men play cricket.”
Sydney / Newie / Brisbane netball Twitter folk, I used this quick custom tshirt place to order these shirts to wear to the game this weekend. Link is here if anyone wants to create their own, or just get a plain tshirt & a sharpie!

Team, we are getting so close to the finish line! You’ll only have to see two more of my chemo updates. Next week I’m seeing my radiation oncologist to plan for that stage, which will start 2-3 weeks after my last chemo.
@erinrileyau
I have a theory that we just need to start reminding Victorians that the date is about the settlement of Sydney not Australia and start referring to it as Sydney Day and they’ll fight tooth and nail to change the date.
One thing I've noticed this world cup is the number of (well meaning) people enthusing "It's not women's sport, it's just sport!" as if that's a compliment? On the contrary, it *is* women's sport and that's what makes it so fucking magical
#FIFAWWC
The players hung around, looking stunned, on the Adelaide Oval for a while after the draw.
Brisbane's Lachie Neale said it was a bit of a bizarre feeling.

YOU SEE SHE NEVER GOT TO RETIRE FROM NETBALL ON HER OWN TERMS SO THIS TOURNAMENT IS ACTUALLY SUPER IMPORTANT. SHE'S PLAYING AGAINST PEOPLE HALF HER AGE & DOMINATING, DID YOU SEE WHEN SHE CAME ON AGAINST THE DARTERS & TOTALLY CHANGED THE GAME? I'D STILL PICK HER FOR THE DIAMONDS
I’m doing chemo weekly now, so apologies if you get sick of the updates! I’m mostly doing it to keep a record for myself.
Today was round two of paclitaxel and I already like it much more than AC! I’ve had a bit of tiredness last week, but nothing like the fatigue I had before.
We had many tears at KRA after today’s game, Pia is learning the heartbreak of being a sports fan 💔 But she’s got through the pain and wanted to pass on this message to
@collingwoodsn
because she saw the players were very sad after the game as well

I love how people like this think this is an incredible 'gotcha' and that I wouldn't support my beautiful son Pat Cummins if in fact he revealed that he was actually my beautiful daughter deep in his heart.
@meganmaurice
@daanysaeed
I see you like cricket
@meganmaurice
, woukd you be ok if Mitch Stark or Pat Cummins became trans females and started bowling, at full pace, to the Aussie Womens Cricket team....
I’m not going to lie friends, it’s been a tough few days. I’m a bit of a people pleaser so I sometimes have trouble just going “Hey this sucks”, but chemo sucks and I’m not coping as well as I wanted to
Then after the umpire determined they had to move 2m back, proceeded to hit her first shot through backward point, straight past the silly point fielder
If, like me, you’ll never get sick of that magical winning moment from the Diamonds last night, you might like to read my thoughts on Wallam’s stunning performance & why athletes should never have to just “stick to sport”
Dan Ryan gets a lot of credit for being a “master tactician” but I think Simone got the better of him tonight. The change from Ellis to Mannix came exactly at the right time, whereas Fever’s changes were a bit chaotic.

Well today was my penultimate chemo session - though I’m still not really sure I believe I only have one left. I had my
@MelbourneVixens
Pride shirt to get me through this one & it was the spirit of my all-time favourite Vixen
@SharelleMcMahon
I needed to get through today!
This is just awful and really shows that we need to start having very serious discussions about female athletes and disordered eating. Diet culture sucks for everyone, but it's really heightened for female athletes and can have serious consequences
