reporting live from Madison Square Garden, where
@TXT_members
just said “fuck” where the song usually says “frick” and the crowd broke into the most hysteric applause I have ever heard
I’ve finally, finally drained the M2 MacBook Pro’s battery. It was a long and arduous process that taught me a lot about myself. Read more about my quest:
Perhaps unpopular opinion: A lot of laptop reviews (and this has included my own at times) treat their audience as necessarily in one of two extremes. Either they're only browsing in Chrome or they're doing heavy video stuff 24/7. I think most users are somewhere in the middle.
I’ve always wanted to see more of the world, and I’m going to be spending the rest of this year living, writing, and editing abroad — which will hopefully include some freelance journalism down the line.
Starting this week, I'm planning to add dedicated accessibility information to each of my reviews. The specific information included and the way it's evaluated will be a work in progress at the start, and I welcome all feedback, but it's something I'm committing to doing.
Have not finalized my Best of CES vote yet. However, this raccoon, who
@HP
has brought to their many CES events, is top of my list. He is my friend and we get each other.
Why does everyone seem to have Microsoft Word except me. Did y’all actually pay $160 or whatever for it? Are you getting it through work? I will live in ignorance no longer
I was at The Verge for almost four years, which is wild to think about. I’ve learned and grown an unimaginable amount in that time. Thank you so much to my colleagues for everything—and thank you all, readers, for reading my work. I hope you enjoyed it and that I helped you.
All my life I have tried desperately to like hiking, because it looks and sounds incredibly fun. Unfortunately, every time I go I am bored out of my mind
WE HAVE A DEAL!!!!! After an intense week of bargaining with Vox Media Management, we are thrilled to announce that we've reached a tentative agreement on our second CBA.
If you are writing a laptop review angled entirely around how light that laptop is, you MUST tell me the laptop's weight by the end of the second paragraph (but preferably in the first). sorry, but rules are rules
The Surface Book was a laptop unlike anything we'd ever seen before. I think it could've changed the way we use computers -- if Microsoft had been able to fix its problems.
What I want to see on Instagram: The photos the people I follow have posted, in order.
What I see on Instagram every day now: One video that was posted two day ago, followed by a long string of ads that are also videos
I’ve been finding that I prefer reading shorter reviews, so I’ve been trying to write shorter reviews. Do the people feel this way too, or is it just my tiny attention span?
“Wait, there’s a computer in here. Wait, there are two computers in here. Wait, there are three computers in here.” - the poor security staffer who has to search my bag every time I go to a concert after work
Is the MacBook Air a bad buy because it's not the best choice for VFX work? Of course not. Will some of its target audience occasionally want to edit photos and videos? Yes. Good reviews need to acknowledge that both of these facts are true.
Apple: you have a solid three months left to make a Spotify Rewind competitor. I feel like that’s enough time even if you get started right now. It doesn’t need to be good. We just want something, anything
People claiming blue checks won’t pay for this are fooling themselves. A small percentage won’t. Most of us will pay this without blinking. And I say this as someone who has been verified for a decade and who never had to “apply” to begin with. Even more will pay to get this.
I am not good enough at this language to explain what the proliferation of the Intel P-series and AMD’s struggle to provide supply has done to the current PC landscape
Dual-screen laptops are an interesting idea, but it can be hard to wrap your head around how you might use one. In this video, I walk you through my typical day using a Zenbook Duo as my primary driver and the various ways I took advantage of both displays
You can say "This is an adequate laptop if you only ever watch Netflix, and an inadequate laptop if you are a professional video editor" about like 80% of laptops on the market. It's not a false statement, but it's a largely unhelpful thing to say.
I am finally watching the old Snow White movie since I never saw it as a kid and figured there must be a reason it’s so beloved. This is truly the most bizarre shit I have ever viewed
My favorite type of article is when the headline is "Should you do X?" and then the conclusion is "Do X if you want to. If you don't want to, don't do it." Brilliant.
TikTok is now banned on the Wi-Fi networks at public colleges and universities around the US. Students are using VPNs, downloads, and massive amounts of phone data to get around them.
If I’ve unfollowed you on Instagram recently it’s because you regularly post video and thus have become my entire feed and I just want my photos back. Promise I will re-follow you when Instagram figures its shit out
BREAKING: At a White House event, President Biden announces new plans to crack down on junk fees across the economy — including bank overdraft fees, credit card late fees, cell phone termination fees, and airline ticketing fees.
Last time I had to cancel a gym membership, I went to the location and was told that the person in charge of membership cancelations was on vacation and I’d have to come back another time 🙃
Game of Thrones episodes were an hour long because there were countless intricate and intersecting plot lines occurring at once. House of the Dragon episodes are an hour long because every time a character walks from one room to another it takes like 25 minutes
I recognize that this is a niche concern, but I am growing weary of movies/shows where a character is meant to speak something not English as their native language but is then only ever shown speaking English (even at times when there's no reason they would need to speak English)
I apparently have a repetitive strain injury from touchpad use, so my touchpad impressions will be somewhat more limited than usual for the next few weeks. On the plus side, you can look forward to my thoughts on the various ergonomic mice I've spent far too long researching
my secret is that I’ve started trying to think of image captions the way they use descriptive captions in Asian variety shows—it has opened all kinds of doors for me
I love the image captions in
@mcsquared96
's review of the new 13-inch MacBook Pro (which has the same design as the previous model) for
@verge
.
"We could've just shot the M1 MacBook Pro for this — you would have no idea."
"This could be, like, any number of MacBooks."
Wrote up some thoughts on macOS Ventura.
Continuity Camera seems handy!
I don't love Stage Manager, but possibly I'm getting old and crotchety.
Mail...apparently didn't allow you to schedule messages before?
