These 4 understood: “the ability to make connections across disciplines - arts & sciences, humanities & technology - is the key to innovation, imagination & genius” - @WalterIsaacson Let’s give our students the tools to forge this and teachers the skills to help them. #1to1

One of my favourite podcast episodes of this marvellous series from the peerless @Gladwell. It has so many of my favourite themes - old Hollywood glamour, WWII, courage, memory and music. A Polite Word for Liar

I thought it a fine tribute you gave him on your van years ago at the signing of the Camp David Egypt accords. The Sadat Satay served in a Begin Bun was a culture shock/thrill to many at the time. Having a stock of Eppi pens on the van was another example of your often unheralded compassion.

As someone who was involved in setting one of these up I’d have to say that amongst many reasons, students and parents from smaller secondaries wanted this. Given the staffing standard, which allocates you a number of teachers based on your school role mostly, every Headteacher has to build a curriculum with what they’ve got and would love to run every subject a pupil wanted to take. I know I did as Depute. In some cases it was impossible. Some teachers of a subject, eg Computing Science are like hens teeth, particularly in rural communities though not exclusively so. So, imperfect as it is (though Covid taught us that taxis and buses were not a necessity) what sits at the heart of it was to provide as much equity in course choice as is practically possible. Every bit of it was to do more with the resources you’ve got for the kids benefit. The learning experience is different and continues to be worked on, but in some ways mirrors elements of FE and HE learning. Of course, if there was an endless pot of teachers we’d love to do that in every school, (and would also reduce class sizes). It’ll be interesting to see where personal Ai tutor bots, subject specialised, will fit into the mix in the future. That will be a can of worms in itself, one my business is getting to grips with, and I do hope you continue to engage and dig into that at TES. Still great, even if just online.

@RoryStewartUK @X “Keep talking about me. Make me the major point of discussion in your day. Engage others in talking about me. Debate about me. Cheer me. Hate me. Just make me the centre of everything so you become numb and helpless. Nothing else is relevant.” Seems to work.

Marilyn and I have know each other for years… Now of course this is all fun and games but this is another example of some of the risks with AI. Imagine a vulnerable student, still trying to figure out who they are, having videos manipulated like this. It’s why Ai education needs to be accelerated, ensuring everyone has their eyes wide open. Remember this is worst this technology currently is - what about next week, next year, 5 years?
