Just trying to edit my dissertation (on version control) over here, but @googledocs is throwing down a pretty strong argument for Git as the one true version control tool. Like wow.

“Work by me and my co-author *Animals Against Hope*” 🐄 🐓Um... when authors have way too much faith in autogenerated closed captioning and don’t manually correct it. #CHI2021

Perfectly scheduled 💉2/2 to stay in bed sick for several days afterwards and watch #CHI2021 with the whole family like it’s an old fashioned TV marathon 🐈🐶🐶👶🏻

@mcoblenz Style conventions makes me think commenting, naming, code structure. I want to talk about even bigger style changes that fundamentally warp how the language is used

Perhaps this is a phenomenon of particularly (socially speaking) distributed languages? Python and JS each have thousands of community frameworks and libraries each shaping language usage in different ways

@ToschEmma Perfect, thank you @ToschEmma! They did a stackoverflow analysis in that paper, and that's pretty much all I needed 😃

I run into this issue about random developer "common knowledge" things all the time. There just isn't a handy academic source to "legitimize" community norms/beliefs that are all over the internet and stackoverflow or whatever. How do you (more mature researchers) handle that?
