So this email means I didn’t input the wrong program codes in the wrong order right? I’m going to be a general surgeon y’all!

I’m extremely excited to say that the Air Force has selected me to pursue a civilian general surgery residency program! Can’t wait to see where I end up in March!
#MedStudentTwitter
#GenSurgMatch2021
Tell me medical school ruined your concept of free time without telling me medical school ruined your concept of free time.
I’ll go first. I’m on my first vacation of residency and already feel guilty for not studying. Welp 😐
#medtwitter
First day of residency ✅ Attendings agree with and sign notes with minimal changes ✅ It's the little things. It wasn't pretty but I made it through the day!
Hot take: Medical and Public Health professionals should be prioritized in the Twitter verification process. It’s clear that the wrong people are having their messages amplified over sound science that saves lives. End take.
I really wish that UWorld gave us accurate percentages of correct answers based on the first pass. I know y'all are smart out there, but I have no idea how 64% of y'all got this question right about a disease that I swear UWorld made up...
#MedStudentTwitter
For the first time medical school, I feel like I actually know what I’m doing. Having almost complete autonomy in the ER and following the patient from triage to dispo this last month has done so much for my confidence!
#MedStudentTwitter
As I browse through these programs, I start to wonder if many programs don't have any or very few DO residents because they don't consider us or we just don't apply. There are several great programs where I fit in on paper with stats and the other points, except I will be a DO.
Seeing a 3rd year Med student’s excitement when closing a port site for the first time is exactly what I needed to get through three long cases last night and reminds me how far I’ve come myself!
To any
@ACOS_MSS
member and DO student who is interested in applying to a surgical specialty, check out our paper recently published in the
@ACOSurgeons
Cureus channel that highlights steps DO students can take to become competitive when applying to surgical residency programs!
Well, I’m on a non clinical rotation and am done for the day. Now all I have to do is think about the Military match results being released tomorrow. Who else is with me?
#MedStudentTwitter
#GenSurgMatch2021
I love seeing all the love for DOs here! I’m proud to be a future DO! Even so, we still face an uphill battle getting into more competitive specialties due to bias in certain places. If you’ve never had a DO match, encourage your PDs to consider us! It will not be a bad choice!
I diagnosed a case of cutaneous Leishmaniasis on an episode of Law and Order last night, so I’ve decided that’ll be my sole study resource from now until the end of quarantine.
#MedStudentTwitter
So I have a question for
#MedTwitter
, do I all of a sudden fear apples once my degree is conferred or when I start seeing patients as a resident? Trying to figure out how much longer I have to enjoy them before they become my enemy. Recs appreciated.
I was honored to be nominated for the Student Doctor of the Year award at my school. It was quite humbling to go through and prepare the materials as I saw how much I have accomplished over the last 3.5 years. Hard to believe I’ll be a doctor in less than 7 months!
It's a great feeling to finally log a bunch of cases that you have been meaning to get to for a while, but there's also obviously a bit of shame that it took a while to get to it... incoming interns, if I can give one piece of advice, make a habit of logging your cases everyday.
I had interviews today that were 50/50 in person and virtual. I felt that the virtual system works well and had an identical feel to those I did in person. Also, maybe it's just me but residency interviews are so much more chill than med school interviews!
#medstudenttwitter
Potentially hot take: ATLS should be a course taught to rising 3rd year medical students as a requirement like ACLS. As a new surgical intern, having that experience would have really helped during any trauma I saw as a medical student.
#MedTwitter
And with 4 days until Step 2, I just have to accept that there are 990 questions in UWorld that I will not get through in 3 weeks. I gave it my best shot!
My rank list is certified and verified but I just spent way too long worrying about and checking if I had accurate NBME, NRMP, NBOME and AOA numbers input in to ERAS and NRMP. So that's where my mind is at today...

#GenSurgMatch2021
@reubixxcube
Biggest piece of advice I got was to approach every rotation as if it is what you are going to do for the rest of your life. You’ll get the most out of the experience that way.
Does anyone have any advice for a general surgery resident who is interested in pursuing Surg Onc but does not have a Surg Onc department at their residency program? I am currently looking into research time which can be taken after 3rd year at my program.
Anyone heard about this year's AP Bio exam? It asked a question about rubisco? I'm about to be a 4th year medical student with a Bio degree and have no idea what that is...
#MedStudentTwitter
If only Epic had an intern feature that allowed us to see if AM labs had been placed, foleys removed, NG tubes placed or images resulted. It’d save so much time.
In an hour and twenty minutes, everything I’ve been doing over the last few years will be transmitted to the 67 General Surgery programs I applied to last night. Good luck to all in
#GenSurgMatch2021
! We made it!
I've come to terms that if I get a question about nitrogen balance on the ABSITE tomorrow, that I am just going to take the L, and I'm ok with it. It's just 1 of 250.
It is officially finished! Thank you to all of my friends and the Match 2021 Support Group chat for listening as I worked through rearranging my list! And now to wait...
#MedStudentTwitter
#GenSurgMatch2021
Here is the classic "I'm done with residency interviews!" photo! These past few months have been tiring, but now the hard part begins of deciding where to place each incredible program on my rank list!
#GenSurgMatch2021
#MedStudentTwitter
Anxious about the match? Plan to get your second Covid vaccine dose and you’ll skip 1-2 days automatically and be closer to the start of match week. Problem solved.
I don’t have anything to add personally to
#medbikini
but know this, if anyone ever calls out any of my
#medtwitter
friends for being “unprofessional” for living their lives and being a human, I have their back and support them 100%!
For those who are having difficulties placing programs in the middle of your rank order list, just use whether or not the city has a Trader Joe's to make the decision for you. Problem solved.
#GenSurgMatch2021
#MedStudentTwitter
Well I have 26 days to finish off the 3500 questions in UWorld for Step 2. Anyone done something similar? Any advice on when to fit in my practice tests/how many to do?
#MedStudentTwitter
Spending part of my first flight searching for Gen Surg Residency programs to apply to. Any that I should definitely include on my list? Sadly haven’t been able to sign on to many of the webinars so I’m going in a little blind right now.
After spending the month on Trauma and in the ICU, I’ve begun to be greeted with a “what’s up, doc?” and included in the banter between all the night ICU nurses when I come in in the morning. I feel like I’ve made it and this is a huge win against a lot of the losses this month.
Well the NBOME just released a statement that they are going to have an alternative to taking COMLEX at prometric centers by May 30th. Hopeful they find something sooner than that day!
Just finished the first draft of my personal statement and while I know it still has a long way to go before being finalized, writing about my experiences that led me to this path have made me so excited to talk about them in interviews!
#MedStudentTwitter
@jasonryanmd
I don't know if Prometric would ever give up the money that they rake in for these exams, but as a 3rd year stuck in the middle of all this, I support it!
There was someone at my testing center today presumably taking Step 1 wearing their embroidered Figs with “MD Class of 2022”. I get they’re comfortable but I’m not sure why they felt the need to flex on us. We were going to be miserable regardless...
@jbcarmody
@TheNRMP
I wonder what these numbers would look like if they were sorted by number of actual publications. Surely there’s a difference between someone who put in a ton of work to write multiple papers on different topics and someone who presented a project or poster multiple times.
Well...I just sent an email to all of the PDs and Program Coordinators for all of the surgical programs listed in ERAS to request information about their program in regards to their attitudes about Osteopathic graduates! Nerve wracking but hoping for great responses!
@ACOS_MSS
Very excited to be joining
@UCSDsurgery
@UCSDCancer
as one of the “Surgical Oncologists as Scientists” fellows under their T32 grant later this summer for the next 2 years!
Am I behind if I haven't started my ERAS personal statement yet? I see a bunch of people working on it, and I have only brainstormed ideas with nothing on paper yet..
Woke up this morning to see that 6 (6!) questions had been removed from UWorld, making me that much closer to getting through it. If that is not a good start to a Monday, I don't know what is!
#MedStudentTwitter
As of this afternoon, I have completed my interviews with all of the Air Force Surgery programs. Now to wait for things to come together and see which civilian programs I will get to learn more about!
When we were finishing the 2nd kidney transplant we did last night, the resident broke scrub and let me close the skin while he charted. It’s a little thing, but being trusted to do that is really satisfying.
After four years being involved with the organization and two years on the exec board, I’ve just finished my term as Chair and completed my last Spring Convention. The impact this organization has had on my life will remain with me forever. Thank you
@ACOS_MSS
and
@ACOSurgeons
!
Proud of you Zach! If you’re a DO student interested in surgery and not a member of the
@ACOS_MSS
, you’re missing out! I’m excited to see what this next board does to propel this organization forward!
Is it bad I laugh to myself a little bit watching people on the street wearing glasses over their mask struggle with the fog like we do every day in the OR?
#medtwitter
#MedStudentTwitter
Ya know, if the maintenance performed by
@TheNRMP
last night led to a glitch that caused results to be released 2 weeks early today at 11 AM EST, I wouldn’t even be mad. Anyone else with me? Not anxious about it at all...

I’m still waiting to hear if my school will accept it, but the American college of radiology has a curriculum they developed for a 2 week virtual radiology rotation. May be worth looking into
