Reminder: H5N1 is just steadily building - different animals, human infections, eggs getting expensive. Doesn't have to be a black box. Can track here:

🧵(7/7) World getting more risky with natural and human cause bio-events. Should never let surprise/uncertainty happen again (Pearl Harbor + Radar and Satellites or 9/11 + CT infra)... a global system of tech/allies is what US needs to build for bio, especially if no fixing WHO.

Whatever you think about it, WHO withdrawal is a call to action to build something brand new on a modern tech/systems. Companies, PhD students, software engineers - literally you just need to start building biosecurity tech. We need 1000x more energy here.

Biosecurity is just like cybersecurity in the 1990s -- the category didn't exist. We need America's biotech industrial base to start building dedicated capabilities to defend against biothreats (natural and manmade). What if we never built cybersecurity software????

Biology is a tech challenge that requires tech answers - America's focus post-WHO should on building robust biosecurity infrastructure - with a focus on adversary capabilities, growth of GoF worldwide, expanded biointelligence (BIOINT), and AIxBio as critical security priorities

"Anticipate a restructured biosecurity framework emphasizing national sovereignty, increased scrutiny of international collaborations, and a focus on enhancing domestic capabilities." We have the expertise to build a biosecurity infrastructure like never before imagined.

Prediction from last week re: WHO: The U.S. will seek to influence global health policy through direct partnerships...Look for alliances between NATO allies, G20 nations, .... and private entities as nations seek to reorient and develop robust data-sharing networks and countermeasures for global health crises, independent of traditional frameworks.

Biosecurity is national security. Here's CIA director nominee @JohnRatcliffe speaking yesterday on the importance of expanding the agency's capacities in biosecurity & biointelligence, and developing relationships with scientists + researchers to build early warning systems.
